Just want to know if I'm being ripped off as this seems very expensive. any advice appreciated and any recommended service / MOT centres near Henley-on-Thames appreciated.

(2018 T32 T6, mint low milage and very well cared for, not some banger needing loads of work).

Thank you for booking your car in for 18th April.

Here is the service quote as per the manufacturer’s recommendations:
  • Carry out service due
  • Vehicle check/inspection
  • Replace engine oil and filter
  • Replace screen wash
  • Replace pollen filter
  • Replace brake fluid
Total service price - £625.92 including genuine VW parts, oil, labour and Vat.

*Please confirm it is ok to proceed on this basis and I will arrange the parts in readiness for your visit.

I think ‘Henly on Thames’ might be the key factor here.
You’re correct, it’s a ridiculous amount to charge.
Pollen filter; 10 minutes. Consumable approx’ £20
Oil and filter change; 15 minutes. Consumable approx’ £85.
Screen wash; no idea why they would be replacing it, if they were 5 minutes.
Brake fluid renewal; 15 - 20 minutes with the wheels on on a lift. Consumables approx’ £20.
Vehicle check / inspection; depends what they are doing, an MOT is a pretty thorough check and that takes 45 - 60 minutes.

Total: Approx’ 2 hours and say £140 for consumable and disposal. Of course they don’t price jobs that can run concurrently like changing the oil and changing the pollen filter at the same time.

I think ‘Henley on Thames’ might be the key factor here. Hahaha - agreed, If I step out the front door I instantly lose £20!

I've cancelled the booking, just got to find another garage now, even considering driving down to Bognor! I can have an ice cream on the pebbles whilst I'm there! :)

Who Quoted that cost ?

main dealer or other ?

Main stealers have become really expensive
Brake fluid Change £100 - indie £25 !

Minor service (as your first post) should be Around £200 - £280

It's an independent garage but the guys are all ex VW, had it done there last year and it seemed reasonable. Never going again now though!

Tell they they are over-priced and greedy and that's why you won't be using them - tell them to their face and look the main man right in the eye when you do it. Then leave and don't ever return.

Greedy people will always be greedy, but it'll give you the satisfaction of knowing they know you know they're greedy.

...and relax  ...and breath.

Ok until they’re the only place that can get your van back on the road when you really need it.

They're expensive - they don't have magical powers that no other VW specialist has got.

I have always used Citigate Woburn Green for servicing, book online and avoid extras. It always seems cheaper than my local indi.
I book a 'while you wait' slot, there is a clean waiting area, and you can have a walk around the Green.
I always go elsewhere for tyres, brakes & fluid etc.

Thanks for the recommendation

These guys are local and have a good reputation among a few people I know have used them:

HOME | Volkstechniks | VW specialist | Culham

Should add, I haven't used them personally as I do most work on my vehicles myself, but they're who I'd call if I wanted something doing! Seem to be a proper old school mechanic specialising in VAG vehicles. That said, Culham is no Bognor beach for killing time while it's in the workshop! :-D

More “solid advice” than a “rant”. Sometimes folk need to be told straight that they’re taking the piss. Any good business could explain the increase and/or listen to the constructive feedback
