VW Self Study Program, Document 541 - Tyre Pressure Monitoring Program
How often do you check the tyre pressures on your own vehicle?
Answer: like so many drivers, probably rarely and, for example, only before you set out on holiday or when you notice that a tyre has obviously lost pressure.
In particular, if your car has low-profile tyres, it will be almost impossible to assess the tyre pressure with a visual check. Inadequate tyre pressure checks can, however, have a significant impact on driving safety and the service life of the tyres.
Therefore engineers have spent many years looking for technical solutions that enable vehicle systems to constantly monitor the tyre pressures and inform the driver about pressure losses.
The development of these systems has now progressed so far that some manufacturers supply systems that not only warn the driver about severe pressure losses caused, for example, by punctures, but can also detect creeping pressure losses and display the actual inflation pressures of the tyres.
In this Self-study Programme, we would like to inform you about the latest developments as a supplement to
Self-study Programme 347 „Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems” from 2005.
