Wondering how big a hit economy and drivability will be affected by upgrading to BFG 255/55/18 (on Oz Rally Race Van wheels)from current 215/60/17 on my 6.1 SWB 204?
(6.5% size increase according to WillItFit )
My T32 4 Motion (manual) currently stands on 255/45/R18 tyres on T6 Sportline wheels, the Tyres all need replacing but my opinion (echoed around this forum) is that the 255/45 tyres look far too small on a T32 and i wish to fill the arches by Tyre upsize as i do not want to lower the suspension...

...suspension (30mm higher) but hungarian roads are very bad and I was thinking on changing it to 235/55/17 or stay with the same rims and put 255/55/18 or 235/55/18 - but then my dsg would be more sluggish and I dont know which to choose from these - is the 235/55/18 the best choice? But does...
VW Transporter Genuine T6 Spotline wheels + Vredestein Winter tyres 255/55/18
Tyres done 4k miles - still 7mm thread
Bought all brand new this year to go to trip to France and wheels were fitted just for one trip and taken off. No marks or curbs ect.
Paid £1600.00 for set including tyre fitting...
255/45/18 is almost identical to standard overall diameter (standard being 215/60/17)
255/55/18 takes it to almost identical diameter to my 235/65/17 Falkens...makes your speedo under read slightly...70 is actually 72 ish
Can't comment on the width of yours, but would have thought it'd be fine...
I suppose only people that have tried both can make a real comparison, possibly a small number of forum members.
Simply looking at the maths, 235/55 has about 7mm larger sidewall, which gives a little more cushioning...
Went all the way from 16” to 20”. Found the 235/55/18 being the best compromise with standard suspensions. And 255/45/18 best compromise with Koni shocks. I went from 16 to 18 245/55 and it was not pleasant in terms of comfort. 235/55 feels more similar to 16” 215/65.
This again.. anyway, seen some Sportlines to buy.. currently have 255/45/18’s on them.. would there be any issue in putting 235/55’s on?? Shall I go for it..?? Cheers.
