Hi. Hoping someone can help with floor lining thicknesses. Im just about to line and ply my floor. I have got 7mm dodo deadn duo pro twin which from what i have read is best to lay over the top of floor batons rather than i between. I have a vanstyle deep step which says is suitable for 12mm or...
So this is how I done mine…
- 9mm batons bonded to the van floor between the ridges
- Gaps filled with 2mm Silent Coat
- Full floor covered with Harrison’s gold insulation (5mm thick from memory)
- 12mm ply floor, I couldn’t get a one piece so used a two piece and used biscuits in the...
Having searched and searched I cannot seem to work out the answer so apologies if it’s out there.
I’m about to sound deaden and insulate my floor. Plan was 9mm battons. Cover in the gaps/ridges with dodo hex mat and then 100% cover with a layer of super liner.
By my calculations I work out...
Yeah thats what I was thinking. Either recessed or some battons attached to bottom that go between the brackets inbetween, judging by the amount they stick up a combo of the two.
Cant claim the idea myself, I remember seing the ideas elsewhere but cant remember where!
Would look great in...
So.. I am not 100% sure what you are saying in terms of advice.. I have my old 9mm floor for battons, which I will CT1 in place. Then which? Thermal liner or just 12 mm ply wood..
Thanks for all your replies, i think i will probably go with the F48+ and just be left with half a tub left over, seems a bit easier and sounds less stressful than epoxy
I'm based in south london and plan to complete the flooring in the next week or so, just ordering what i need atm
this...
If I put down silentcoat everywhere on the floor and over that the 12mm ply board why not just attach the whole thing with the six mounting points for the brackets? Why even bother with the battons and sika?
Thank you, very detailed response. I plan to do the same and have ordered a kombi step.
However in your last photo, that looks like a caravelle step, as it’s got a light port on the right hand side! Just double checking with you before I stick this rather large layer of 7mm insulation down.
I...
i fixed my ply down with counter sunk machine screws using the tie down fixing points. You will still need 9mm ply Packers though as the ribs on the floor aren't all level
I've had good results with the proper building grade foil insulation (I used this from Wickes) in lining a garden shed which I need to heat above freezing as it has live steam models in, since doing it mostly doesn't need heating beyond the dehumidifier that's keeping it dry.
I've used the...
Finished the sliding door shelf today.
Ended up using a batton behind the panel which was screwed into from the front with nice black screws.
The screws are flanged instead of countersunk as countersunk will mess up the thin wood.
Screws...
...you may have floor sag or floor creak in the unsupported area... also MDF soaks up water/condensation like a sponge and goes all soggy . . . . So dont rush, take some time and research some more.

So, converting my 2018 T6 SWB panel van with all the usual first time errors! Panels out, windows fitted all round, dodo sound deadening and insulation in, carpet lined all going well. Yah!
And then the floor!
Following threads on here I went away from the insulate and screw straight to the...
Wooden roof.
I've had carpet in a caddy before and I hate the stuff.
So was looking into getting a wooden roof.
Needs to be lightweight as most make mistake of stake putting up thick pieces of wood which just add weight to the build.
There's a company than do a nice veneered oak 2 piece roof...
Did you manage to do this after and if so, were you able to find a taller replacement side step to give the neat finish?
If you have a photo, that would be great. Thank you
