Not seen this on VW but heard of diesel getting into the sump when re-genning due to it washing past the rings when altering the injection cycle. That can make the level rise as it dilutes the oil. Silly question, did you or the AA person sniff the dipstick?
alternatively a faulty sensor?
...related ones I read on here. It's had countless visits to the dealer, many new DEF parts, and now it's a 'thing' with the Macans of oildilution where they over fuel on an active regen, not all the fuel gets burnt and washes past the rings, increasing oil level and diluting the precious...
Not all turbo failures result in an engine that is possibly damaged to the point of a tear-down.
VW are covering their backside as they could be taking on the job the first garage failed at doing. They won’t ‘ short change’ themselves.
Fuel dilution? The van only travelled a few mile before...
I think the end point as you describe it will be a catastrophic lubrication failure due to fuel dilution of the engine oil.
I’m amazed that a VW tech’ has mentioned to a customer that this is the reason for the raised oil level, while he is correct I doubt it’s the official VW line.
I’d like to...
Thanks, that was a good 'leveler'. I just got apprehensive at reading so many posts that highlighted the engine oildilution problem on not just the 150, but also the 110 and 102s. It starting me asking the question 'why has someone chopped in a 2020 van with 4k on the clock, it has me stressing...
Hi everyone and thank you for the replies and clarifications. I have just been reading a thread about the 150bhp engines that are experiencing 'Oil too Full' warning lights coming on and the lack of a solution from VW. It all sounds like crankcase dilution to me which is not good or tolerable...
...its warranty. After that it's not our problem, if we have to replace a few engines outside the warranty period due to premature failure caused by oildilution the customer is paying the big bucks".
The "fix" of putting less oil in the engine to make more room for contaminants is genius! (not)
Hi guys, I have a 2.0 dsg that keeps having the oil pressure warning light coming on? I have replaced pressure switch and checked the wiring to switch all look ok, did a pressure test and pressures looked lower than I expected, but I don’t have the manufactures specs to hand... the strange thing...
I have seen a few posts about the 110ps engine having this issue with fuel mixing with the oil and VW don’t seem to have a fix yet and the problem reoccurred. Seems short journeys are especially problematic, hope it gets sorted soon
Agreed they wont want to take any chances as they are new to the job and they will have to put it right if it goes again.
IMO an oil sample wont give anything meaningful, remember the turbo shaft has snapped so presumably the bearings have had a hard time and the oil will have washed at least...
Regarding the increased regens, it is very possible that this is a result of the new calibration (remap) as advancing the injection timing, increasing injection duration or increasing the injection pressure (ie what the calibrations do to increase torque) all increase the soot being produced in...
@Long tall John is dead right, nobody posts, "another day of my van running perfect" on any forum!
The fact as I see it is this forum helps to raise awareness of potential problems, what they might mean and how you might go about dealing with them.
There are tens of thousands of T6's running...
There are quite a few applications which constantly monitor oil quality (condition monitoring) whether it be the oil filter differential pressure against oil temperature / RPM, fuel dilution or the contaminant particle count. The one thing they all have in common is they protect equipment with...
Thanks. That is the scary bit. What upgrade is needed to fix the EGR issue? Oildilution is it a problem on this engine?
I already miss my 2.5 TDI. Reliable and neve missed a bit. And it pulls a lot better than the euro 6 150. Will probably fix this with remap. What I can’t change is the sound...
I had an oil sample from EU6 150ps engine analyzed after 15.000 miles and 18 months (25.000 km). Amount of water in the oil was 100ppm (parts per million) which is very good. Soot 0.7% - still ok. Fuel dilution 8% - oil change recommended because of reduced lubricity.
Van's oil service counter...
It's a strange one as once you start to pressurise the intake system the EGR has to close otherwise all of the compressed air from the turbo is sent backwards through the EGR system into the exhaust so you'd think that under load there would be no combustion temperature issues with a blanked EGR...
VW may regard oil emulsification as ‘normal’ but it will reduce the life of the engine.
Water emusified oil not only has severely degraded lubrication properties it also reacts with sulphur from unburnt fuel dilution and blow by gas to create sulphuric acid.
Sulphuric acid will attack engine...
Every 10K or 1 year here too with the second service done at a VAT registered VAG specialist for warranty purposes.
For info, I watched a programme recently and it included a brief interview with a guy from Miller oils. He basically said change the oil at 10K max, irrespective of what the...
Reserved. Working on this post... adding more graphs... will bump up the thread when finished...
Picture 5. Exhaust temperatures over "full" DPF regeneration.
Note: here "full" DPF regeneration was from soot level 17.7 grams down to 9.0 grams - as this was the remainder of what was left after...
Not far off with 200000 miles life. The T5 I've just bought needed a new dpf that I've had done .154000 miles but lots of short journeys in its last year. Also had a knackered egr that probably didn't help.
