Oil level too high warning… AGAIN

The oil is being diluted by either coolant (very unlikely) or diesel (very likely). There is a good deal of information on oil dilution, it's not uncommon and nor is it just a VW issue, it's plagued a lot of JLR Euro6 diesel engines too...

    EGR Replacement or Not

Environment - you are partially burning oil with the added emissions that with go with it, oil and re-gen’s. Engine - sooting of EGR and induction system, clogging piston rings with carbon, forcing carbon along with blow by gases into the engine oil and crankcase, clogging DPF with soot, added...

    Seeking non-VW advice

all diesel engines used for little mileage will dilute the oil in the sump with diesel. I would change oil every 6 months. However engine not up to temperature will not help with dpf. Starting euro 6 you ll have oil diluted in the sump, clogged dpf, egr failure due to not warming up enough the...

    Best bomb proof tow vehicle.

Wasn’t the 2.7v6 diesel with crankshaft issues? Euro6 tdv6 and 2.0 diesel euro 6 all suffer from oil dilution in the sump and consequent dpf issue Problem never solved by jaguar/Landrover. I have sold my Jag 20d after 16k miles. Light on the dash every 2k miles, oil and filter change. They have...

    Advised oil level over filled

https://www.t6forum.com/threads/t6-1-oil-level-warning-reduce-oil-level.20261/post-583415 Have a Search on ‘fuel dilution’ and ‘oil analysis’. It is possible that there is one or more leaking injectors - in which case the issue needs repairing. Far more likely is the common problem of fuel...

New T6 back in garage immediately after purchase, VW unhelpful

It might be reasonably benign right now if it's the classic short runs causing partial regens but that process dilutes the oil (hence why the engine thinks there is too much in) and does long term damage. At the very least I'd be insisting on a full oil service to replace any contaminated oil...

    T6.1 Reduce Oil warning

Cheers dude. It’s driving me nuts. I followed the video and thought I’d cracked it yesterday. Need to spend a bit of time sorting tomorrow again. This van! At least my wheels and tyres are now sorted lol.

T6.1 oil level warning: Reduce Oil Level!

Diesel fuel dilution criteria according to Miller: 2% by volume - caution. 4% by volume - failure. 4% of 7.4L = 296mL. Safe to say that oil is being diluted beyond recognised safe limits and causing accelerated engine wear.

    T6.1 - DPF Failure at 30,000 miles?

Probably the constant attempts to regen have led to the oil dilution. I'd get the DPF replaced, oil changed and see how it goes from there Revo maps have a decent reputation, so I'd leave that be until you've had the other work done and run it.

T6.1 Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

...do regeneration at standstill is getting oil diluted with fuel." I imagine that for the majority the steps that can be taken to avoid oil dilution and possible repercussions of that, are of great value. Thanks again, you have added a lot of useful references within this post which I feel...

    Service intervals for a T6.1

Long life service 2 years or 20k miles. However, too many horror stories to Keep the oil that long in your engine. I bought my 2021 van in 2023 with 11k miles and it had an oil change just a after 5500 miles. Than again at 11000. I have serviced it again myself at 17000 miles and last week had...

    Advised oil level over filled

Thanks for your reply, I did notice when I’d posted this thread, it came up on the bottom of the page there was a thread about reduce oil. That’s got me worried now, iv just rang vw to get it booked in to look at the possible cause and iv got a oil change on my all in plan left so I’ll ask for...

2015 Caravelle 180ps engine using oil

Been here....done that. Got a 14 plate T5.1 bitdi. Started drinking oil about 18 months ago...like a lot. 1 litre every 500 miles towards the end and the DPF needing to be regened lots. Did a millers oil test which showed there was lots of aluminum from the EGR in the oil....and this was after...

Oil Analysis shows high levels of Iron

VW BiTDI's are real fun ... I have an old 180 that is guzzling oil under load. New dpf fitted in the Spring and then the oil usage was obvious, egr blanked and mapped, compression is good all round. 2nd oil analysis next, now I have put a few k miles in. Mind you the rate I add oil sometimes...

A recurring oil issue on T6,1.

Good advice in Post 2 and 4, but reducing the oil level is a short term, get you home fix. Your oil has been diluted, most likely with diesel. (The alternative is worse). Removing some oil is a good idea if that's all you can do while abroad, as explained in post 2, but as soon as you...

    T6.1 Reduce Oil warning

It may be a software issue but it is possible that your oil has been contaminated by diesel during failed DPF regenerations or a faulty injector, adding to the quantity in the sump and triggering the "reduce oil" warning. This is not uncommon. As you know, there are a number of threads along the...

T6.1 Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

The problem happens every 4 months so I’d need 3 oil changes a year at £200 plus an oil change and in between those I’ve have oil dilution and increased engine wear…sounds great for a £50k van There’s other issue like I’m going to Germany this summer for the football and will do 5000 miles but...

    T6.1 starting issues

Get it looked at, could be a failed lift pump which is not feeding enough fuel to the High Pressure Pump (which can cause damage and is expensive to replace) or a leaking injector(s) which could at best cause dilution of engine oil, at worst put enough fuel into one cylinder to cause a hydraulic...
