Yes, as you have noticed, using washers or going into reverse automatically puts the recirculation on, this to prevent fumes from entering the cab this is operated by a motor.
You may find that the control cables that operate the flaps have become detached from the control knob?
How many hours labour were you charged? Mine is the dsg so from reading is harder to access, I can just get my hand in to feel it!
Is it just the flexi that needs replacing? I've no EML and fault codes were checked a week ago with nothing. Slight smell in the cab but I can definitely feel air...
Another split EGR, and fumesin the cab.
Another new EGR was with the courier to be delivered elsewhere for someone else. Clearly a design/manufacturer fault.
Got my new pipe fitted the other day. Very fiddly to do but I am quite slim so managed ok, took maybe 1.5hrs. No fume smell in my cab now and probably 7/8 more miles to the gallon.
My pipe was split in the same place.
Not heard of that before, are they sure its not the common cracked egr pipe?
Have a read here

Mine opens but only on the right side. Not user error, totally fastened down so the roof is pulled tight. It happened on motorway. Luckily I heard it so pulled over immediately. I have now have to put a ratchet strap around the handle of the poptop to the handle at drivers side where you get in...
IF you get fumesin the cab, it’s most likely that they have been drawn in through a vent or unsealed opening in the body. The heaters are room sealed & heat is transferred via a heat exchanger. You may get a slight “hot” smell when it first fires up, this will be dust on the room side of the...
Dealer agreed a large discount on replacing the part today.
Explained that this was a safety issue, especially as many people may now be suffering from loss of smell so may not detect the fumesin the cab (hay fever knocks out my sense of smell, and what about Covid…!).
Clearly a poorly...
so what's been done under warranty ?
at 36253 miles the Fan Blower resistor pack gave up.

Maybe it's not your van or coming from outside in? If you have window ajar and another van is using their diesel heater it wouldn't take much for your own fumes or theirs to seep back in, if you're down wind from someone else or a still night for your own fumes. If any of that makes sense

This fuel inlet delete looks very cool
but I see one significant disadvantage.
Basically you have to keep your door fully open every time you are getting the fuel.
Obviously I am disregarding completely fuel fumes entering the cab during refueling and SWMBO complaining about it.
Sorry to dig this up. I have posted about my issue in another thread but found this whilst doing some digging.
I had my EGR flushed on Thursday. Then had a juddering issue which they say is unrelated and now I have an engine management light on which when plugged in I’m told shows an issue...
Many thanks - super helpful. There's a drip tray (I think?) under leak so not easy to see. Yes frustrating not done when they replaced DMF and clutch in October. And waste having to put a new cambelt in but I'm going for it since would be nice to have everything right at least intitially!
