Suspension / wobbly drive would be my guess as well.
But check for split egr pipe although most report exhaust smell in the cab.
Heated windscreen was a pretty good guess as well, I don’t have one so don’t know how visible the grid is.
It is frustrating when every other post with fumesincab goes something like this:
A) I can smell fumesincab
B) that will be a cracked EGR pipe, go check
C) yes, I nipped out and checked and I spotted it straight away. It's now been fixed (ouch, them new pipes are expensive!)
Or something...
Fumesincab wasnt great either
: EGR flexi-pipe: Exhaust FumesInCab, Hissing From Engine Bay.
that was the EGR flex pipe at the rear of the engine.
a git to get off, but all covered under warranty . .
.
Thanks, it's not noticeable in the cab but the fumes are noticeable when I have the window down. Would that also account for the loss of power? Certainly some similarity with the cracked EGR, seems a popular issue :(
Checked search. Could not find anything. As stated above our T5 just bought has the following problem. 'Gear lever moving up and down on accelleration and decelleration'. According to me it should be a faulty enjin mounting. Also have exhaunt fume smell in the cab. This i also put down to the...
Yeah, there's a whole thread here
https://www.t6forum.com/threads/egr-flexi-pipe-exhaust-fumes-in-cab-hissing-from-engine-bay.8076/
I've found keeping the heater off means I don't get fumesin the cabin, I can use it with Aircon switched on and it's fine, just not without Aircon switched on...
VW assist guy done mine from top side in about 20mins. (Rear pipe)

.
you sure its not a split EGR pipe in the engine bay? (final exhaust fuses shouldnt smell very bad due to the cat and dpf)
but the EGR pipe splitting is a very common issue . . . and yours is a 2018 so prime candidate.
I've had mine done on bot 2018 and 2017 vans...
The videos I have seen have often shown the crack on the underside (not visible) so just wondered how best to spot.
I didn't think I could smell fumesin the cab, but I walked past an idling diesel car today and it smelled particularly bad and I realised that hints of what I could smell matched...
trying spotting leaks. HTe smell of exhaust fumesin the engine bay and also in the cab when the fan is on is pretty high. is there anywhere else exhaust gases can leak from? No leak obvious when trying to locate earlier. Would it be a good idea to remove it, inspect, and - if no fualt found...
...my complaint. I shall buy the genuine parts and get them fitted. My engine has not done a regen for a long time and I am guessing this is due to the egr issue. No fault lights showing. Van runs great apart from the fumesincab! Commiserations to the the 1000s who must be in the same position.
Hey n10b, it’s been doing it since before I changed the EGR plus new reinforced pipe. I could smell it in the cab sometimes.
Now no more smell and CO meter shows reading of zero.
I don’t have heated windscreen.
It doesn’t handle badly but these stock shocks aren’t factory fresh with 145,000km...
So, I am getting the diesel exhaust fume smell in the cab and very strong when I stick my head under the bonnet. My van appears to have the new shape rear pipe.
How easy is it to diagnose a cracked pipe (front or rear)? should you see smoke, be able to feel gas being puffed out? I have had my...
...modified increase the exhaust gas flow.
Plus check for split EGR pipes at the flexible bellows, you’ll see photos here EGR flexi-pipe: Exhaust FumesInCab, Hissing From Engine Bay.
Plus as I asked on post #2. Can you smell exhaust gases in the cab or under the bonnet with the engine running?
