I have a 2018 T6 California which I have owned for approx 2 years. Last summer I started losing large amounts of coolant and it took quite a few months (and the van behaving poorly) before it was diagnosed as being a faulty EGR. This was fixed just before Christmas and everything seemed ok. Then...
I have an interesting problem and would appreciate inspiration.
My van (2016 Caravelle 204ps, 53k miles) has developed a coolant problem.
Symptoms / points known so far from non-invasive investigations:
Has alerted no coolant a few times shortly after engine start when still cool
During...
Hello collective brain.
Knowledge and advice welcomed please.
After losing power and the engine shutting down a cylinder I pulled over and called the AA. This was their report:
Patrol found the following fault code/s: System : Engine control 1 - VMV / Motronic MED 17.1 UDS Status P 030000 -...
Sorry Rich, not really sure.
I kept getting a fault code, took it to VAS who diagnosed the EGR and said that they could delete it for around £700 less than replacing it. I have no idea what they did.
I have been losing small amounts of coolant and suspect the EGR cooler, Does a remap and delete also bypass the egr&cooler unit ? or get rid of it all together and replace it with a bridging assembly ? Or is a delete only to get rid of its function and wouldn't help me with my possible problem ?
...went in for investigation, it was left on pressure test for about 30hrs and dropped a negligible amount. The mechanic said if it’s losingcoolant it’s not bad enough to spot easily so keep driving it until it gets worse. 1,200 miles later and it hasn’t lost any, so weird as the coolant...
keep us posted. Good luck :-) I have same problem. Overheat coolant if i drive uphill. EGR cooler was new this year and my engine oil consumption stopped. Im not driving hard
Thanks @Dellmassive i always appreciate your help.
It’s not losing loads of coolant but losing any is a problem so I’m going to get it booked in to the garage tomorrow.
...you might remember the old one had a tiny split in the hose caused by the old charge cooler shearing it’s mounting. This one is the newer design.
The silver pipe I circled comes out of the EGR cooler assembly doesn’t it? I am wondering if the EGR has cracked and it’s losingcoolant in there.
Hi all,
I've had my T6 for just over a week now. Its a 2017 150 dsg with approx 40000 miles on it and today when leaving work the coolant temperature sensor has started flashing and the gauge was not moving up. I stopped the van and turned it on and off and it disappeared.
Has anyone had this...
I too have a 16 plate T6 SWB shuttle 150 manual and have been losingcoolant. The system has never failed a pressure test and no obvious signs of any leaks. Whilst monitoring coolant levels it appeared to lose the most level after the engine had performed a regeneration cycle on the DPF...
...and moisture condenses in the filler neck on short journeys. It should clear after a good run with high engine temperatures.
If you are losingcoolant or it never clears, you could have a problem, but if not, it’s normal.
See link below:
So I looked in the engine bay..and then the oil filler
My 2016 Shuttle 150ps was losingcoolant after about 600 miles, turned out to be a faulty charge cooler which caused a rubber hose to split. I’m not saying it’s the same thing but worth checking.

Hi all,
T6 150ps DSG shuttle, 188k miles
I’ve been losingcoolant over the past wee while, from max to minimum on the coolant tank over 600 miles or so (measured cold). After reading through all the EGR information on here Im convinced its the EGR valve that needs replaced, but wanted a few...
I'm not sure if anyone has looked in to this yet, but my 150,000 mile 5 year warranty is due to end on the 30th of November.
So i've checked, and VW will offer an additional years warranty at a cost, this is to cover all parts on a van with 115,000 miles at present, driving over 15,000 miles...
