Resistor pack only does fan speed, hows the van on the coolant temp do you notice it falling when driving sounds like you could have a stuck open thermostat or even water pump partially stuck if you have the electric style pump
Should of added, I've already found the forum to be a great help. A few weeks after buying the van, I noticed the fan wouldn't work on anything other than number 4. Quick search on the forum and found the fix. £8 for a new heater fanresistor and bosh, its working again. Cheers Gents!
Just been outside to have a wee look.. Pin 5 is not present in eighter side of the red connector.. Bugger... Seems like I have to jack up the car to have a look at the webasto. The A2 connector, is that what webasto calls X1 i guess?
The T1Ar, is that a splice or a connector?
a 30Ah fuse for...
Get the van cool and then use re-circulate. It the van is not insulated then it is a large steel oven or fridge depending on the time of year, VW OEM sound deadening and insulation is almost non existent.
Don’t run the fan on setting 1 as the resistor pack will eventually burn out, very common...
Just signed up to the forum. Keep me posted Smudge. Just ordered dye too.
I've had coolant loss since March; after Timing Belt & Water Pump change.
The past month, I've been having to top up coolant every 300-400 Miles.
Hey, sorry I missed this before.
Thanks for the info. Sad to hear about the power usage on the fan, but I suppose it's designed for use while driving when power is not such a concern. I may look into other ventilation options, but I'm limited in terms of what I can do height wise due to my...
The copy parts also have a thermal fuse. It is just a shame that VW have not been able to engineer this component correctly over multiple generations of different vehicles.
The resistor pack will get hotter in position 1 because of the highest voltage drop in this mode and, therefore, maximum...
Welcome to the forum.
I don't really understand how that helps. The resistor pack is cooled by the flow of air flow in the duct across the device when the fan is running. Hence when on speed 1 there is less flow when there is also maximum resistance (more power to dissipate) and the pack could...
Here is the T3 solution to the problem - VW Electrics Dash Fan Control Upgrade - VW T25(T3)-Tech using a PWM motor controller instead of the resistor. Here it is a mixture of the resistor melts surrounding plastic and the switch contacts burning out. As to whether something like that would be...
Yes, I’m out of warranty, apparently it’s to replace the fan and switch ( supply and fit) a defective fan that runs flat out draws too much current and burns out the resistors in the switch, so you have to replace the fan (expensive) and the switch. . .
Picked our van up from storage last weekend and found the fan was only working on setting 4 (so resistor had gone) after a few days away I went into the dealers (Cordwallis in Maidenhead) and they fixed it on the spot 20min job and they checked the cam belt mine was OK no replacement required...
Mine goes in on Monday for new fan and blown resistor, all under warranty. The fix isn't difficult or expensive if you just follow the YouTube clips added within this thread.
Currently on the third blower resistor pack in less than 40K miles, it’s not so unusual. Regarding VW service managers......., I’d rather talk to the mechanic.
Cambelt doesn't need changing but the van is booked in for the blower problem , receptionist said they need to replace both or either the resistor and fan ?
Also looks like they are doing it without charging me as she mentioned it would be under warranty . Fingers crossed
Mine failed with about about 4 days of warranty left , took it in for the cambelt recall 2 weeks later and was told no problem and that they would book it in to be fixed .
A further 2 weeks on and i took it in and was charged £481 and told it was out of warranty and that they had to change the...
