...up your starter from solar - and only once the LB is "full enough"
It's likely to be about as much effort sorting the wiring out as adding an AMT12-2 but that has the advantage of topping up from any source that charges the LB not just one of them.
To clarify the "could work" my suspicion...
...It got sent back to the Amazon after a week for a refund. A new Bosch battery was installed and a couple of weeks ago i wired in an Ablemail AMT12-2 which throws a small current from the Leisure battery into the starter battery when the starter falls below 12.4 Volts. In theory I should...
Hello,
Don’t wish to derail thread but quick query.
I have the dreaded SCR rather than DC to DC. Would Ablemail 12-2 help in this instance.
Two Solar panels wired into rear cupboard seems to keep fridge etc going. (Much help in solar was gleaned from this forum prior).
...back on here that the commissioning of the new battery went well. Sod’s Law always has the final say.
Good news first though, the Ablemail AMT12-2 seems to be working okay. I had the headlights on for a few minutes and I got the green led come on and confirmed charging of the starter...
Hey guys, my converter is suggesting to use of one these...

What do you think? Will this do the same job? Any pros or cons?
TIA
...leave the internal blinds in to keep the sun out, in winter we have a small oilfilled radiator set at 5 deg to keep the frost out. I have an AMT12 to keep the starter battery topped up. I don't run it between uses, IMHO this causes more harm than good, as unless you get the oil up to temp...
IIRC, when I had the Sterling unit, you had to be pretty smart to press both buttons at the same time, it took a couple of goes to press them both simultaneously.
You should make sure that both batteries get a maintenance charge - ideally you have a decent multi stage charger on your EHU already for the leisure battery so just leave it hooked up - starter battery you can either fit something like the AMT-12 to trickle it from the maintained leisure...
1. Personally, I would connect my solar to the LB side of the DC-DC & fit something like an Ablemail AMt-12 to keep the SB topped up. Plenty of folk use this method & it works well. Fitting the solar to the SB side might fool the DC-DC into thinking that the engine is running (Depending on...
So I have a Sterling DC to DC B2B charger and have bought an AMT12-2 to keep the starter battery topped up (Leisure Battery topped up by separate solar).
Is it as simple as connecting the AMT12-2 to the connectors in the Sterling unit labelled 5, 4 and 3 or am I a clueless
AMT
I’ve never been too sure of the effectiveness of my Ablemail AMT12-2 either. It has been back for repair once as it was not charging. The BM2 does occasionally show a 0.03v charging blip but it does not keep my starter at a constant voltage when I’m not using the van and allows the stater to...
My Starter battery was replaced by the garage I bought the Van from but I discovered the muppets did not code the battery, so I did it. I like the concept of the AMC so will get one and see what happens. The Leisure Battery needs to earn its keep in the off season:)
That’s more or less what mine shows. I assumed that by setting the AMT12 to “smart alternator” it didn’t fully charge the starter battery.
This is mine just now
...works for you longer term in a bit.
Some mount a quick connect under the bonnet to make hook up easy, others fit something like the Ablemail AMT12-2 trickle charger as a more fit and forget (so long as you have your leisure battery maintained from EHU/Solar)
If you do mount a quick connect...
