Sparky’s Guide to leak- free, concealed, colour- coded awning rails with Thule bars on top!
So….we have had the van (2017 T32 LWB 204 DSG Kombi) for almost a year now and I have been obsessed with the idea of fitting a leak- free awning rail under the roof bars. I wanted a sunshade and...
They are fully removable and would be the same as a van that's never had them fitted. (provided the blanking bolts are put back in)
Roof rails/bars usually bolt into captive nuts located along the gutter rail. To remove them you unbolt the rails and then put back in VW blanking bolts that...
I'm curious as to how the water (enough to drip) would be getting into through the zip. The zips arent waterproof but they have a pretty generous storm flap to keep water away from them.
If it's leaking when it's down how are you folding/rolling the fabric as the roof comes down?
The rear...
Fitting awning rails to both sides of the van and wasn’t confident about water tightness. Then found all the horror stories about leaks through the roof rail fittings into the interior of the van. I found this thread which is really helpful...
Hi Eclipse Vans
Thank you so much for taking the time to post - I can see, from the SCA website dealer page, that you are a full supplier and a parts supplier for SCA roofs.
I think that everything that you say is absolutely spot on - that it is highly likely that water is getting in through...
Looks like you’ve taken the roof rack off - make sure you have sealed the holes up well as they often leak water into the cab. You can buy new bolts from the dealer that come with a new rubber washer.
All looks fine. I was told to try and neatly fold across the face of the pop top from window. Im trying to give it a dry then will fold it back down and see how it gets on.
Hi Pete
just seen a thread on another sight same issue on a T6, there are no drain holes in there so any water going down the A pillar leaks into this area, having drains drilled off but would be nice to stop the water at source, tried sealing roof bar bolts and reimo roofbolts just can’t stop...
I considered PTFE, the problem I found though is that the bolts are secured with captive nuts on the inside of the van, theres a fair few mm’s on the outside of the bolt where its secured through the roof which the PTFE would not protect against water ingress. I think the idea is that the...
I have roof rails on then purchased a Rhino rack with a roller. I have a tailgate and spoiler. I originally intended to take off the rails to mount the rack directly where it's supposed to go. However 2 points...the rails have been leak free and so didn't want to risk future leaks by disturbing...
Coincidentally, I was carpet lining this weekend and found exactly the same issue in our van (except on the driver's side). Damp under the drivers seat causing water to pool under the cab lining.
Sorry to hijack the thread but, if it's not the roof rail bolts are there any other likely things...
The Possible if all is dry ( door seals/ roofbolts/sunroof) is the Condensate drain plug (see pic) if blocked the water can back up under the lower dash and leak….failing that are all the floor bungs in place …water can be thrown up….or if cables have been added Via the bulkhead and not...
Camper essentials to a really good one that’s reasonably priced and they’re really easy to fit yourself. Just screw onto the existing holes on your roof. They have other designs depending whether you’ve got a pop top or roof bars already fitted...
