    Roof Rack Mounting Bolts

Hi. The standard are just blanks. The size is M6. I fitted some second hand roof rails to my van (didn't come with bolts). I took one of the blanks out and measured the depth and the thickness of the roof rail foot to get the correct length. There are lots of horror stories of getting leaks...

    Part number: roof rails?

Bear in mind that the bolts each screw into a captive nut, held within the roof structure. That captive nut can move around a little, so sealant on the bolt threads is not enough. You have to put sealant all around the hole in the roof skin, so that it goes down and around the captive nut as...

    Roof Rail Removal

Do you mean the raised tube rails or the slotted roof rack prep which sits in the gutter? I have removed the latter roof rack prep, you just need the replacement bolts that sit in the gutter. They come with washers but are notorious for leaking so a bit of PTFE tape or sealant is useful.

Sliding Window Leaking And Drivers Windows

No I never did stop mine from leaking completely, you might have found the solution with the rail bolt as that is something I suspected, mine could have started after I fitted some chrome roof bars but I cant be certain. I did fit rubber washers and new bolts at the time, main dealers didn't...

    Water ingress

when you fixed your rails did you tiger seal them as well as bolt them? perhaps water has found its way in somehow? Also, check all the protrusions into the engine bay on the drivers side and the vent well drains. I had this on a. T5, Loads of leaves and scrap had solidified and water wasn't...

Any builders in here for a bit of advice?

A short flat roof was the only solution I could come up with too, but I did wonder if there was another way. Saying that, the garage door is so recessed into the garage, that I might only need something coming out 6" it's just doing that and making it look nice and not like a bolted on extension.

Remove the bolts. Silicone around the sponge washers including the unused (for rails) hole. Don't be tight, use plenty. Fit awning rail. Silicone around all 4 holes. Refit unused (for rails) bolt loosely. Fit roof rails. Tighten everything up. Didn't bother finding/ordering another washer...

    Skyline Aurora Roof

I’m so disappointed with my skyline Aurora roof, The first roof was fitted so poorly by the conversion company, the finish to the silicone around the van and the canvas could of been done better by 3 year old. The same roof had a faulty zip fitted to the scenic part of the canvas, which a blind...

    Roof Rail Leak Free Fixing.

So having fitted the rails yesterday I thought I’d make the best of the incessant rain to see if i was indeed leak free. I didn’t really have a clue where the holes in the roof would appear inside the van other than a rough idea but as I already had the rear roof lining out to run some cables...

Lightning Leisure Awning Rail For Vw Oem Roof Rails

I have this rail fitted with OEM roof rails but i used some threaded bar and nuts instead of the original bolts so the original rubber washers could be used without big dollops of sealer everywhere as suggested on here to stop any water leaking in. To answer your original question,it does fit...

    Water In Step

Roof Bars fitted? I have recently replaced the foam seals on the roof bar bolts with some butyl rubber seals since I found one bolt on either side leaking. The one by the drivers door dropped water in the step area.

    Awnings and Tarps

I fitted these at the weekend c channels on both sides of my van - I modified them so as to not interfere with the “leak free fitting method” of the roof rack. The modifications consisted of shaping the front of each C channel and drilling 4 holes in each channel (3x 20mm to fit over bonded...
