Sold Pair of Transporter Window Vents/bug screens (T5/T5.1/T6) Kombi/Caravelle/California

Yup @Ricardo T - the oem sliders I have that they fit with are flush when closed and look recessed when open. I've not had any issues with our midges when using them - the mesh underneath the metal grill is pretty fine. You know what those wet buggers are like though...

    Scottish Midges

Before you change your mind completely, I did an experiment in the Peaks not so long ago. Put Smidge on one half of my face, and nothing on the other. The midges didn't like Smidge but they did like the other half of my face. If you bathe in Smidge you might be ok if they are cousins of the ones...

Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

You don't get midges in that part of Scotland, you'll be fine. If you head far west you might have some though https://www.smidgeup.com/midge-forecast/ Loads to do round there, Aberfeldy is great. Schiehallion is a good easyish walk up a mountain (the top is a massive boulder field though)...

...late May to late September worst during calm damp weather in sheltered areas by lochs and rivers are worst, dry weather out in the open with a breeze no problem. You can buy anti midge spray ons etc. and if you do get bitten a dab of Essence of Lavender on the spots I find is very soothing.

Trip to the Isle of Skye

...a place we share with the family further out on South Uist - I don't have a huge knowledge of Skye but you're arriving in the early part of midge season so may find the west coast a little less annoying for the little wee buggers as the prevailing sea breeze from the West/North West keeps...

    Scottish Midges

Not Scotland, but far far worse are the Mosquitoes, Horse Flies and Midges of Finland. My sister wouldn't use DEET, but used some stuff from Avon and The Body Shop, and ended up in hospital. Personally I put DEET on outer layers that don't come into contact with my skin, and take antihistamine...

    Camper King Sliding Window Vent

Jerba Campervans sell inserts for the sliding windows and they're suitable for keeping out midges (i.e. very fine mesh)... https://www.jerbacampervans.co.uk/shop/b/jerba-vw-t6-1-midge-screen-2/ To answer your question @burnsy79, no, not all sliding windows are the same size. I believe the Jerba...

    Scottish Midges

From experience, I can completely state with 100% certainty that the midges that feasted on me several years ago absolutely love citronella, olbas, peppermint and in fact, everything else we tried - except for smoke. They don't like smoke. We had a little peat fire where we would put our heads...

Trial fit the midge nets. My OCD won’t be satisfied until they’re completely tight with the edges trimmed.

Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Thanks @TallPaul_S we are planning on heading west from here on Sunday. Maybe to Glencoe and Fort William from there. Maybe get over to Mull. We’ve never got further than Oban on the West coast. We’ve got 7 days to fill. We need to be home on the 22nd.

    Scottish Midges

It will be midge season in May. They aren't out all the time though mainly at dusk and only if its a still evening. A slight breeze and they perish. If you're camped right next to fresh water they will be higher in volume so can be quite bad if you dont have fly screens but again, it's not a...
