    Camping Ideas and Tips

No mate, nothing at all, wasn’t expecting any midges, naively. We leave the repellent in the caravan and this was a van trip so didn’t have any with us, but I’ve added some to the van kit for next time.

NC500 Do you need to book campsites

...east coast, the final day before the van had to be back we did 521 miles, I still remember them all! Such a wonderful trip, we will certainly do it again going the other way next time! Get some midge stuff, the electric ones sound useful, not sure if they are as effective as their reviews...

    What Have You Bought Today?

Bought one of these for our trip to France in September (wanted one that didnt need drilling to frame) and I have to say its excellent - so much so have ordered one for the back door too now - just so we can get a nice through draft without the midges - Would recommend

    Scotland in winter?

No midges up here at this time of the year! Daylight hours are very short, but I am always going to recommend coming to visit! As others have said, the weather at this time of the year can be a lottery, heading east towards Cairngorms might be an idea.

    Sold Sliding window vents

...The vents come with a built in fly mesh, but I found this was too coarse for Scottish midges. I’ve added some additional extra fine mesh to the back which works a treat. This can easily be taken off to put them back to standard. £120 plus postage or collection from Leeds.

Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

It has been gorgeous the past few days, we've been very lucky. Although, with the wind dropping, the midges are out and about. Uist wasn't so bad, but our overnight at the C&CC Skye site is unbearable outside

Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

I must've been lucky because I've not experienced any really, seen the odd few around but not the normal plague like proportions, I've not been bitten yet anyway. I was chatting to a guy that lives on Skye today and he told me that there haven't been many around this year because they've had a...

    Sorry, another pop-top thread

...beds that fit to VW rails are very high and can leave your feet dangling whiel your head is hitting the roof bed. I went with Jerba in the end. The best feature for me is the Ventile fabric roof canvas which means there is very little condensation. It also has proper scottish midge proof screens.

Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

My youngest son has his eyes on our van. We had the roof and leisure electrics done and he was all over it asking when it will be finished. (Much sooner if he put something in the pot)

    Windsurfing Dream Van

Quite often the van will go through a number of configurations in the week of a retired gentleman (OK Gentleman is a bit of a stretch) and can look like this One day and this the next If you look really closely you can just see the Jerba Midge Screen stowed in the back of the drivers seat cover.
