I've used them before too. It's inevitable the grub screws will damage the paint very slightly, but it'll be on the inside lip so hidden from view and easy to rectify if ever removed. I've seen clamp on bike rack do more harm.

Has anyone got a VW bike rack that might be knackered and has spare arms and clamps going? Could do with the longest one and mud length one, if there are any going?

Thanks ginkster. We have 2 folding e-bikes weighing 17.5 kgs each (probably a little more with the bags on.) The handlebars fold down so that might take any risk out of hitting the roof. Closing the tail gate is an issue and no rack?
