That seems a bit odd, the rear EGR pipe (feed to EGR) connects on the far left side of the exhaust manifold and is nowhere near either turbocharger?

If you can smell exhaust gases under the bonnet or in the van there’s a problem. The cracked EGR pipes on certain engines is well documented in the Forum, have a Search with ‘EGR pipe’

Sounds like a perfectly sensible plan - something Ferris Bueller might have thought of doing on his day off?.. I discovered there's no blanking plate on the deleted egr. So could be losing some boost in there. I'll fix that before the drag race. M10 multi-spline for the bolts on the short pipe...

Will do the cracked pipe now and drop it into my specialist when he is back. If it needs a new unit, will just do it. Is it such a consumable on the 150 engine? Read about it loads on the 180/204.

Had this fault come up last month and checked out by AA vw specialist, it's ran ok for 850miles and now back up.... obviously have searched and understand it's insufficient flow but took a pic of the values on his test and wondered if the readings give any indication that a flush may help..? Or...

...insufficient flow error came up a few weeks ago. cleared with CArista, and did not come back. May have gone on for another few thousand miles, but as the van is a keeper, did not want it causing any more related issues. edit: the egr pipe cracked and was replaced on a service a year or two ago.

It’s just mapped out and left in place. The blanking plates stop any exhaust gases leaking past the egr valve. The coolant still passes through. For MOT purposes it looks factory. Mine has passed a couple of MOTs since we put it to sleep.

The EGR blanking plates could be placed at either end of the EGR pipes but it you want the best protection against a split pipe they should be placed so that the pipes are isolated along with the EGR unit.

Official VW manual is pretty clear about this - change the bolts/gaskets during every refit. They state the mandatory replacements at the beginning of every chapter. There is clearly a reason for that (although in some places - an overkill).

After having the rear EGR pipe replaced a few weeks ago everything had been fine. Van started & completed a regen earlier today, I had Carista plugged in and the P0401 message returned but showed as Pending. No engine warning light though…not sure why? As in is it normal to show on Carista...

I do not know much, but for what I can read if you remove/block the EGR, the DPF has to go. otherwise it gets blocked. I think people either remove it and replace it with a stainless pipe, which is a direct MOT fail, or remove the DPF and tamper with it (Drill out the actual filter), so it has...
