Sounds like the starter battery is goosed. Get a new one fitted and coded in. Then find a way of keeping it charged up every now and again. Maybe add a solar panel in the windscreen or plug it into the mains charger once every month.

Yes - definitely. For instance on an older vehicle I changed my windscreen washer jets and the van kept going into limp mode. Turns out I hadn't used the 'heated' version. Managed to fix it but - yes, there are some non-serious problems that will make limp mode.
