Picked up Saturday drove home the couple of hours smoothly only to suffer a broken driveshaft 10 mins from house ♂️
All done now ,
Any recommendations on insurance companies please
Tried to add onto my aviva policy but they said won’t take a conversion thats not from factory
I am trying replace the rear Off side wheel bearing but can’t get the drive shaft out. Nearside the driveshaft drops down fine and can be removed but the Off side there is a brace in the way.
Any tips or ideas how it’s removed?
Cheers Nev
Having just had my gearbox replaced due to a seized DMF causing wear tho the driveshaft socket I have my old one back from the dealer. Obviously it will need said socket replacing and possibly other parts reconditioning. I see on flea bay a recon gearbox is around 3k, any ideas what mine might...
Have they removed the offside driveshaft and checked the splines inside the gearbox? The symptoms sound exactly like this increasingly common failure.
If so, it will need a rebuild to replace the differential side gear, and a new driveshaft. A LOT cheaper than a new box, and getting a second...
...km on a 2023 model) makes worn suspension components (e.g., shocks, bushings) less likely.

- **Driveshafts**: Rotate at ~10.8 Hz, aligning with the vibration frequency. A minor manufacturing defect, imbalance, or CV joint issue could cause vibrations...
Just bought a 2023 4M, Cali with 15 000 km. Also have vibrations at 85 km/h, not above, not below. Saw in service history that a driveshaft joint was exchanged. Can it have something to do with that?
Thanks for your replies,
I currently have 60mm lowering springs and machined top points to give it that extra bit of drop at the front. So around 80mm drop currently, next question is.. would it be wise to look at shortened driveshafts at that height giving the option to go lower at a later date?
...sure I can hear a noise that sounds like the wind if that makes sense. Similar to road noise but in addition.
Could I have damaged the driveshaft, cv joint or some bearings when taking it all apart and its a rotary noise?
I did read a thread on here when someone's top mounts were...
I removed a little over 2.9 litres from my T6, 6 Speed gearbox today & refilled via the neutral position sensor had to do it regardless as my passenger side driveshaft seal was weeping, the colour of the oil was horrendous and smelt very burnt.
Just booked it in with the automaticgearboxcentre.co.uk They literally just said its likely to be all the things you mentioned and cost is around £2.4k. Thanks for responding :-)
Thanks it's just finding a local garage willing to investigate and diagnose, I'm leaning towards driveshafts but will probably have all the engine and gearbox mounts checked first, as I remember when they completed the dmf it was returned to me with a loose / incorrectly tightened gearbox mount...
Interesting. I got O/S J&R CV joint. Is there a way to check Drive shaft and CV joints, inner and outer to be 100% sure? That would be a loots of money to replace the all. Visually all seems good and there is not much play in them.
Is it possible to mount a go-pro camera underneath the van with a view of the prop shaft?
Take a short video while you drive in a manner that causes the vibration.
I wonder if it would show the shaft vibrating?
Maybe it is possible to do the same for each drive shaft?
Hi stupot, I have the same spec and age of van and going to be doing some suspension/ brake upgrades. Is the driveshaft wear down to mileage or any other factor. I am aware that some lift kits state the life of the driveshafts can be reduced.
Cheers
@Solow Suspension Andy, what's the lowest (approx) you can drop a T6.1 on Solow Lows before you get driveshaft judder? As I understand it there aren't any shortened driveshafts and a subframe raise isn't as simple because of the electric power steering??
Thanks!
