15922 - Cylinder 4 Glow Plug Circuit (Q13

Hi All,
Doing a prepack today for a trip on Thursday and it's typical timing that the Exhaust system warning light(according to the manual) came on. I connected via VCDS - see error below - 15922 - Cylinder 4 Glow Plug Circuit (Q13) . Interestingly the mileage 83053 that the error is logged at is about a hundred kilometres ago and no light till today which doesn[t make sense, also not sure why it's triggering the exhaust system light.

When I clear this fault the light goes out but no doubt will be back.

There's no way VW will give me a slot before Thursday, Anyone any idea whether it's ok to drive like this?

P067400 - Cylinder 4 Glow Plug Circuit (Q13)

looks like nothing major, glow plug 4 performance out of spec.

which could possibly effect emissions, although glow plugs are only used on engine start.

shouldn't give you any driveability concerns. . . until you get it looked at.

take a note of the fault, clear the code, and see if it come back.

if it comes back the same have a look at replacing the glow plug ( or all 4)

more info, different engine, but you get the idea:

No influence on driving - glow plugs are used for preheating just before and during cranking, and also 2 minutes after engine startup to reduce smoking. Might observe "uneven" startup if glow circuit indeed doesn't work. However, it's designation is still "intermittent".
no light till today which doesn[t make sense, also not sure why it's triggering the exhaust system light.
For the emission faults there are "thresholds" before they manifest themselves as warning light.

My guess is the possibly missing "post-heat" is categorised as (minor) emission fault.

If you have a chance please check&post report from
VCDS > OBD-II > Mode 1-01 Readiness
Curious to see if the deterioration is reported there.

EDIT:
When I clear this fault the light goes out but no doubt will be back.
Oh no - the readiness data is lost! It takes a while (several hours of driving) to get it restored.

@Dellmassive @mmi - Thanks guy's, really appreciate the input. Will do some research and see if it can be a DIY job.
@mmi - will be next week before I can check 'readiness' at which point I'll have driven multiple hours.

Thanks again...

Age and millage of the van?

Glow plugs can get stuck in the head and snap.

Sometimes needing specialist help.

So not sure on the DIY front. (Not done them on a T6 myself)

So guessing a 8/10 for hardness?.

Have you seen the downloads section for a workshop guide?

.

Remove while hot, fit when cold.
You might struggle to get the correct size tool unless you go to VW.

@Dellmassive - 2019 / 83km - yeah I watched a vid on you tube and on the surface it‘s screw one out and screw new one back in but the whole cooling system on top of cylinder block needs to come out for access, add to that the risk of snapping etc.. I’ll most likely bring it to VW. Thanks for the info.

@mmi - Readiness report below. Not sure it tells much... I clear the fault and it comes back after a day or two but logged at the original mileage (300Km ago at this stage) and still with a fault frequency of 1. Are there faults that cannot be cleared with VCDS?.
Thanks.

Thanks. Well, a kind of confirms that (possibly) non-working glow plug doesn't affect readiness status :geek:

Interesting - did you clear the faults under Auto-Scan (Clear all DTCs)
or
specifically under VCDS > Select > Engine > Fault Codes > Clear Codes

The latter should clear anything/everything for the module (certainly if the fault is active it will come back but with a new time stamp).

I’ve tried both ways, I’ll clear it again during the week when I get a chance and see what comes back. Thx @mmi

I’ve now got this same error, tried to clear it but it bounced back.

The new Amarok is calling, the bus is on very thin ice.
