20'' Space Saver

Hi all, I have a t6 transporter conversion and the company put 20" alloys on. Whilst under the van today I noticed a space saver bolted underneath, trouble is it's the standard 16" wheel. It's been some time since I had a car with a full spare so I'm not certain that a 16" running on one corner with 3 20" wheels is feasible should I get a puncture. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

It’ll depend on what size tyres you are running on the 20 & 16 rims. To be on the safe side put your sizes into this site to identify the differences Tyre Size Calculator

It's no different than a BMW/Merc/Audi fitted with big wheels and then putting on a space saver.

The bigger issue could be if it's a 4-Motion, but as @BognorMotors says the rolling circumference will be similar anyway.

Just one other thing, a friend got a new Kombi with 20" wheels a few weeks back, he's got a 204 with the bigger brakes, the supplying dealer had put a 16" wheel on his spare for some reason.

You can imagine his joy when he had a puncture last week and the 16" spare wouldn't fit over his calipers.

because of my REVO brake kits I run a 20" spare, and we do a modification to the spare wheel bracket to accommodate this

belt n braces for me Especially as there’s no forum breakdown service

I've got 20'' Alloys fitted, does anyone know of a 20'' space saver wheel that will fit T6.1? Ranger Rover? Audi?

My spare is still the original 17'', does anyone know if a 20'' space saver will fit underneath?

My van is a 4motion so keen to make sure the spare aligns should I ever need to use it.

I seem to recall reading a post from @BognorMotors where Oli mentioned he did an adaptor for a 20" spare.

I have the same issue as you, compounded by running 18" winters with a different circumference to the summer 20"s. Would like a properly sized spare but having a separate one for winter and summer is getting a bit silly. Would be interested to know what the actual %age tolerance is on the 4mo system

Oli would I get away without modifying the carrier if I used a space saver?

Why the importance of getting a 20" space saver? If its only to be used an emergency it doesn't really matter (unless you have a 4Mo). Look at the space savers on cars. Just use the OEM and I would think they tyres diameter wont be much different anyway.

Yes I have 4motion, I was thinking space saver to avoid having to alter the carrier. As Transporters don't come with factory 20's, I was wondering what other cars that do have standard 20's would be same fit. I know Audi & Range Rovers have 20's, was wondering if any fit. I'm a not tyre specialist, so any help from people on here is appreciated.

The wheel itself doesn’t need to be the same size, the overall diameter and therefore circumference including the tyre need to be very close. What size tyres are on those alloys compared to the current spare?
