20” tyres - 275 vs 265

After some help please…….

I’ve ran Goodyear Eagle F1’s asymmetrics in 275 35 20’s on my 6.1 California (lowered 70mm on coliovers) for 3 years and 18k miles and it’s time to replace them. It would appear that Goodyear only make them as runflats in that size now so I need an alternative.

Keen to stick with F1’s as they have lasted really well, I’m thinking of going 265 40 20 now.

Always liked the look of the 275 as they give a square profile and the speedo is spot on, negatives are the fronts rub a little on the inner arch (ET45 on full lock) and the tyre is quite close the wider Cali sliding door. After looking at willtheyfit the 265 appears to be taller and narrower so I could fix the inner arch issue and I’ll have more clearance to the door.

I think Bognor now recommends 265, they fitted the 275’s for me and I wonder if they switched due to Goodyear stopping making 275 in non run flat?

Can anyone share a pic of a 265 40, I’m assuming even though they are narrower the 40 profile makes them look a bit more chunky on the rim, i don’t want it to look too rounded/stretched if you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hijack, but looks like the OP is sorted now anyway.

Between F1 Assy 5’s & CC2’s in 265/40/20. What’s the general consensus of the better overall tyre? The F1’s seem to have better ratings for fuel economy, wet performance & noise level, not to mention being a little cheaper. Does the CC2 warrant the extra £££? And if so, how?

Cheers to anyone who can offer some input before I lump a load on some rubber :)

Can’t comment on what’s better but the F1’s I am removing have faired really well and I’ve been pretty impressed considering the weight of the van, hoping the Assy 5’s do as well, but wanted to mention that BlackCirles have 10% off at the moment.

Cheers mate. Good to know

265 Goodyear F1 Assy 5’s, hopefully being fitted Tuesday.

Just wondering how you are getting on with these? I have the exact same dilemma. Oli fitted the 275/35 to mine and I managed to get a set on eBay for replacements but now with them not being made looking for an alternative.

Did you notice a difference in comfort at all with the bigger sidewall?

Also just wondering on the overall look as like you I love the look of the current eagle F1 and worried if I switch to the 265/40 the tyre wall will look to big.

Sticking with the 275/35 I was going to go for Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S which I can get at the moment for £830 which is a great price!

If you have a photo of your wheel and tyre side on that would be massively appreciated :D

Current setup....

Hi

Not really happy with the 265’s at all and can’t wait to replace them, which unfortunately with the mileage I do won’t be for a few years.

First off with my offset and coil over setup they rub a lot more than the 275’s on the front inner arch on full lock, next up is I have a lot feel from the steering and it feels like the tyre leans more on cornering, finally I don’t like the look as with so much side wall and rounded tyre walls the wheels don’t look as good as they did before.

Only positive is the ride is a bit less crashy, but in my opinion not worth the pay off for the other negatives

I should have gone for 275’s but in another brand, reason I was sceptical and opted for 265’s was that prior to the Eagles I had Vredsteins on a previous van and they sat very narrow on the wheel, where as the Goodyears sat square and looked perfect.

Will try to post a pic tomorrow when I can see the Cali in daylight.

Hope that helps

Thanks

Arron

Thanks for the very in depth and quick feedback Arron! Sorry to hear they havent worked out. The only thing swaying me in that direction was the ride quality but all the other points you have made I think I'll go with the PS4.

Pics here for you, to be fair I’m getting used to the bigger look now but do prefer 275 if I’m honest, it’s the rubbing that is the worst.

For my ten penny worth I run Goodyear F1 Assy 5 265 40 20 104Y in the summer on my T32. I can not fault the ride and handling quality of these tyres. They don’t rub anywhere and perform extremely well in rainy conditions. Check out the annual tyre testing on you tube to see which tyres are consistently at the top.

Silly question, from someone that hasn't lowered their T6 yet but has plenty of very low cars: Have you considered rolling the front wings? Not a huge job, and one that done carefully doesn't require paint.

Also, a question that might help others when working out tyre sizes here... what width are the wheels? I guess an 8.5j vs a 9j might be the difference between you having less luck than @RobertO2023 above.

Hi

It's actually the inner plastic arch that is a problem and not the wing.

For me its partly due to the fact I'm lowered 70mm and have a California, so run a staggered set up (using offset to stagger) as the Cali sliding door has a larger doorcard on the inside so the rears cannot be so wide.

Both F/R are 9x20 but a et45 front and et35 rear, most T6 wheels are sold with the same width and et front an rear, but that tends to mean the fronts have more poke than I like, so I went ET45 front to keep them in a little, and the issue I had the wheels I liked were not available in 8.5 so had the fight with the 9's between not so much poke and catching the arch on the inside, which was pretty much perfect with the 275 tyre but the 265 being more chunky threw a spanner in tht works.

I am running the same tyres, lowered, the F1s have lasted way better than others but rears are nearly ready for changing again at around 8000 miles, it's was laser aligned last tyre change, how much are you getting out of a set?

Take the screw out and bend the tab on the inner wing. Mine rubbed on heavy compressions with 20's and 265/40 then I did that and it stopped completely.
