I am currently converting a 2018 T6 4motion (see photo) into a proper overland camper to be routinely driven off-road and on green lanes. To get it right I am going to need some help and advice on underbody protection and rock sliders.
Think your best bet would be Matt at T5 upgrades in wales, I’ll be getting rock sliders fitted by him sometime this year.
He works on T6’s and other models too
The 4 motion camper is already a heavy beast, so don’t go too mad on metal protection else you will end up with little carrying capacity.
A lift and some stainless side bars will help protect the sills.
a rear diff guard is sensible.
Protecting the front and rear bumpers from entry and exit slopes is a challenge due to lack of mounting options.
Their plates are made from 5mm alum’, I’m not convinced that they would be substantial enough if you grounded out a van, especially at anything more than crawling speed.
There isn't enough suspension articulation for anything more than some rough dirt roads and you definitely won't be needing rock sliders unless its for all show and no go.
I fitted Seikel plates to the underside of my 4motion, to protect fuel tank, engine , rear diff and as the attached photo shows a plate to protect my Webasto. The black plastic ring is what I fitted for the waste from the sink.
