ABS light on but no code found

The ABS warning light has come on so we applied an up to date code reader but no code is found. Using the "clear codes" facility has not made a difference, nor has disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes. Anyone any idea of what is going on or what to do next?

What kind of code reader? The generic ones read only emission related codes - from engine only.

Proper professional one. May be low brake fluid but she has taken the van and gone out in it so I cannot check yet!
