Add seats on V5 - reclassification from LCV?

Hi. Total Transporter newby here! I’ve just agreed a purchase on a 2017 T6. It was a panel van I believe - although a detailed vehicle search says ‘van with side windows’. It’s classed as a LCV. It’s currently empty in the rear but has side windows. I plan to add a RIB bed in the rear, which will take the seating from 3 to 6. It seems like this is pretty easy to do with DVLA from the bit of reasech I’ve just done. But my query is, does submitting this change with them reclassify it away from an LCV and bring the speed limits up to car standards? Or is that another modification that I can/cannot change? I don’t want any further internal extras, eg no kitchen/storage so won’t be a camper or motor home. More of a day van. Huge thanks in advance!

Adding seats is simply a matter of sending off the relevant bit of the V5 with the modification on it, can’t remember which bit off hand. The speed limit will remain the same as is. You need to go full camper to get around that one.

I’m of the opinion that this extra seating will bring you in to the ‘dual-purpose vehicle’ category which means you’ll be subject to car speeds.
Edit: seems you’ll also need a rear window to meet the DPV category.
It has barn doors with windows, so that could definitely be an option, thank you

Thanks for your help

Here is the UK Gov link to the definitive answer. In short it has to have a fixed roof, row or transverse passenger seats behind driver and side and rear windows. (All of which I guess is a tick for you). The only bit to really check is ratio between passenger and load area (or however you can manipulate it to your chosen outcome).

HTH

I looked at all this before doing my van.

Edit to add (original question…DOH) yes if you can class it as an MPV I am too of the opinion you can do car speeds. But as I say there’s lots of info to read through.

Fantastic, thanks for this

It also has to be under 2040KG unladen, which some T6s aren’t. I thought I’d seen a similar discussion previously, & in that case the OPs van was overweight to qualify as DP.

Vehicle check gives a kirb weight of 1914kg so fingers crossed that's a positive start

I changed the number of seats on mine recently. Put the new number in section 1 of the V5 and send to DVLA with some photos of the new seats. The V5 arrived back a couple of weeks later.
