Advice, recommendations and condemnations required!

I'm in the process of having new tyres all round and have been talked into going the Cross Climate route.
As it turns out, one of my front Velare 8.5 VLR07's has a crack in it. About an inch long from the inside of the rim
I have ordered a new single one from a top quality relatively genuine ebay sellist for £289, potentially genuine bloke from the republic of Stourbridge.
Please advise (argue amongst ourselves), do I get it welded to use as a spare? Do I bin it? I could potentially use it as a dartboard surround or a light fitting/interesting coffee table!

The alloy was £290, the tyres were £540 for a front pair, £270 a piece...

Personally it wouldn’t be going anywhere near my van, unless it was as a coffee table. It’s a scrapper imho.

No spare under the van now, a can of goop is our spare. The rusty as hell 16 that was there is in the garage holding up several bags of compost ready to plant @Dellmassive 's tomato plants!

Honestly I wouldn't trust it if repaired and if you do get it repaired and sling it underneath you're going to be tempted to leave it on if you use it.

I'd vote ornament and look for a steel if you want something on the van (taking care not to accidentally buy someone's Legoland bad day wheel)

I think I would struggle to get a 20 on underneath! Thank you though.... I wonder if the legoland thing is still a thing?

No takers for a weld job then? There was me hoping to shell out another £80 to a local tradesman...

The wheel specialist would be the people to ask as they can advise if it's on a safe area and there work is reallytop notch. I've seen loads of wheels repaired at work some really well and some I wouldn't want to have seen knowing they are on the same tarmac as me.

Thank you @B.different You realise you'll owe me £40 after DrAlloys has been to visit! I make that 1 to 4 against at the moment! I wonder if we can find someone who will admit to having had the procedure?!
A reminder I have ordered a new alloy from a completely reputable Stourbridge based trader called Renaissance Rims and Tyres. What could go wrong?!!!

Well that's half the price of £80 so you owe me . I've had 2 alloys welded in the past, one for a split on the inside and the other was a piece that got kerbed. Before I get abused both wheels were done by a welding assessor who checks the crash structure welds up and down the country so he wouldn't do owt thats not cosha. Not saying all repairs are viable but some are. Big wheel refurbishment companies won't repair anything thats naughty for legal liability reasons.

Thank you @B.different for taking the time to reply, I will have the DrAlloy come out to inspect, apparently well recommended in these parts. New alloy arriving with me tomorrow.

Personally I would have it welded and keep as a spare as I have had it done in the past and had no further issues afterwards. Having a full size spare is great if you damage another wheel and need a temporary replacement, even just a kurb scrape to swap out whilst being refurbed. .

I’ve had a couple of alloy wheels straightened that look like they’d gone over a brick. Looked ok till I saw them on the balancing machine! I cannot tell which they were now and have been fine.
