Alternator identification: split-charge relay?

Hi all. I’m just in the process of converting my 2016 T28 Bluemotion.
I am not wanting solar but am wanting to add a second battery but puzzled by which kit I need. Amazon sell a split charge relay kit (Durite 12v 140a) for only £90 but I am unsure of this will work. How am I able to find out?

thanks in advance.

Hi eskimojon

A split charge relay is no good you will need a DC-DC charger due to the bluemotion start stop on your van if you search the forum for DC-DC charging plenty of threads I've used a CTEK250 kit that I got from @travelvolts website and the wiring loom kit ( split charge systems ) never had any problems with it and easy to install there are plenty of other options as well.

+1 for the CTEK. My converter used a split charge relay. The leisure battery was very low after a weekend camping and the first time the alternator went into its regeneration charging mode when slowing down and engine braking, the voltage shot up on the starter battery and it promptly blew the 30a fuse.

Since fitting the CTEK, the leisure battery is charged at an appropriate rate and is charged up to 100%.

+2 for Ctek...great bit of kit ....when I use my mobile 300w ( 2x 150) solar it tops up the main battery after the leisure ( free power) ...
but as you’ve read any help give @travelvolts a shout..very helpful ;)

Likewise. I only have a 50w dash top folding solar but that tops up the leisure and also then juices up the starter. Takes some load off the alternator and will save (a tiny bit of!) diesel.
