Are battens needed for flooring?

I've been researching a lot.

9mm thick battens fitted in between floor ribs. Are they necessary for a 9mm or 12mm thick plywood? Would they be used if only you screwed the floor to battens?

Aren't the factory ribs spaced for flooring anyway without the need for battens?

I read a post I'm sure adhesive was placed on the ribs then floor was placed on top.

Thoughts please.

The most common way these days is....

9mm battons bonded to floor.

9mm floor sheet bonded or screwed to battons.

Altro floor, carpet, wood floor. ontop
