Are LED DRLs worth the hassle

I put led DRLs on my t5 and seemed to be replacing one on a regular basis - not too bad as they were easy to get at. I've now got a t6 shuttle and fitted twenty20s in the DRLs when I had the front end apart about a year ago. Now one of them has started flickering and thrown up a bulb failure warning.
Have I just had bad luck or is this normal? Can't decide whether to re fit LEDs or go back to standard when I strip the front off

Cheap LEDs don't last. To get them ultra bright they push them too hard/hot. Good LEDs last though. Osram make some with 4yr warranty.

It may be the bulb holder.

I'd been having an intermittent fault with the off side DRL for a while. As soon as I put my fingers on the bulb holder, it would turn back on for a short time. However, eventually it packed up altogether. So I removed it and discovered this.... The contacts were blackened and the plastic...
