Are these tyres load-rated? 255/45/18 103

I have a T30 Campervan: I purchased Bridgestone A005: 225/45R18/103Y: Max Load 875kg at 50 psi

i got my first puncture and when I was having the puncture repaired it was pointed out that these tyres were car tyres and not van tyres.

I have had a look around the site and I am heading down a rabbit hole of being confused

Are my tyres suitable for a T30 and will they pass the MOT which is due in July ?

Many thanks for your help as usual.

Knocks your confidence in the tyre fitter, or was he trying to blag a sale!
I thought I was ok. ( it did make me question myself ) I think he was trying to get a sale - he didn’t get a sale.

Cheers and thanks

I have just had 4 new 255/45R18/103Y's fitted. Chatting to the lad at Blackcircles, mine were not van tyres but car tyres. If they are for t a van they would have a letter "C" for commercial on the tyre. Having said that he said they were totally fine for the camper (T30), just not designed for carting heavy loads around like you would in a commercial van.

I asked him what pressure he put in. He told me that for van tyres (designed for) it would be 50 but for non van tyres such as mine it is 42-45 and 50 would be too much. Does that sound right?

'C' tyres are more robust. Designed to withstand more harsh use, bashing over kerbs, dropping into ruts and tend to be harder, therefore last longer, keeping the vehicle earning money for longer. The compromise of all this is a very stiff tyre with a reduction in comfort compared to a car/SUV tyre.

When I bought my Goodyear Vector 4 seasons I had a choice of SUV or non SUV designation both of which are 102 rated. I was advised that the SUV tyre was 6 ply and the non SUV were 4 ply.

I did try some SUV tyres once but found they wore up at an alarming rate!

Side wall on suv tyres is softer and more comfortable under our van. If you plan to load a lot of weight probably better C rated tyres.

I had tyres fitted May 21 and front are wearing quite bad. Yokohama Advan Sport 255/45ZR 103Y18. Just been back to garage who fitted them for wheel alignment check, and I was asked what pressures I put in. I stated 50PSI and I was told only 40psi as they were car tyres not van tyres. He asked who fitted them and why 50psi. I stated he fitted and recommended 50psi. He denied saying 50psi!!!!!!!

Are these tyres ok and what pressures should go in them? It feels like a drunk ship going into bends now compared to before.

Thanks guys

i used to have the same tyre ( different size ) on a small SUV and they wore very quickly…..as for tyre pressure a lot depends on the model you have …I’m on Michelin Cross climate 255 45 18 103 y and the pressure is 3 bar ( front/back )= 43. Psi. It’s a almost factory T32 204 Kombi…..but you should have a sticker on the van somewhere that gives an idea at the pressure you should start at ..tyre pressure like suspension is very subjective…you may find the suspension needs to be look at ( up graded)… @CRS Performance …can offer lots of advice

ps …a lot of tyre dealers can never really set up tracking on vans …you may .need to find a specialist

Look on your drivers side B pillar, (open the door and look at the B pillar) there should be a sticker with different size tyres showing diffent load scenarios and appropriate pressures for each tyre / situation
