B14 Bottom Out

Hi all, I’ve just had my b14s fitted to my t28 with 8k on the clock, as low as they can go with machined out top mounts on the front aswell. On 17 inch steels. Very pleased with the look the ride is fine!! However on the way back from the garage (6-7 miles Country lanes) it has bottomed out several times even at low speeds, not been near a lot hole either! all I have in the back of the van is the original wheels and suspension. I wasn’t expecting this and it’s looking sweet, so I’d rather not raise it up. Considering there are kits which drop a lot lower out there I was wondering if anyone could help me work out weather I’m too low or if something common has been missed in the fitting process or possibly faulty parts, the van load will very, but typically light tools , maybe some racking at some point 300kg top.

No worries, I’m new to this so please forgive me:rolleyes: I got back in the dark last night, I’ll grab a few shortly.

I'm running a T32 LWB with B14's set on the lowest setting, 19" wheels, and a good amount of weight in the rear with all my kit. I've never bottomed out, but my front mud flaps catch speed humps and dips in the road if they are deep enough. (at speeds, this sounds like it's rubbing the inner arch, but it isn't)
I have also run 17" steels, and only several days ago, 17" Devonports whilst I had my 19's refurbed, and again, zero bottoming out.

The main difference between your set up and mine, other than the obvious T28 T32, is I don't have machined top mounts, and I run H&R Anti roll bars, set on the stiffest.

I agree they look cool set on lowest, and I wouldn't lift mine either, but there is a compromise in ride quality, and the harshness does sometimes get a little tiresome.

Thanks!! that’s exactly what I wanted to hear! Something isn’t quite right. I don’t mind the odd bang as a comprise for the stance. But I wasn’t expecting this amount. I’ll be back to the garage ASAP

I'm pretty much the same as TS above except mine are on a 40mm drop, never heard any knocking even when fully loaded with camping gear, 4 bikes, 2 dogs, 2 kids, 2 wifes etc. (the last bit isn't true ;))

Get them double checked and raised if needed, you don't want any knocking at all, ever.

Is the knock from the front or rear?

I wonder if they have put the adjusters at the bottom of the spring instead of the top, Can you get a photo?
I will go and and take a pic after dinner, from memory I do believe the adjusters are at the bottom......interesting

Been out and fitted them the right way up my self this morning. Road tested and is excellent, noticbly better ride and not bottomed out once on 20 mile drive.. thanks again for the help.
Can’t actually get my head round why it would stop it bottoming out because everything is still the same length. But it has...

I can see the logical reason they'd be fitted that way, if it's not something a fitter is familiar with, but at least now we know you cannot install the rear adjusters upside down, thus making it a lot easier to adjust the rears.

Glad it was a simple fix

it doesn't bottom out, it's the top of the spring on the metal bump stop as the adjuster helps keep it in position
