Biturbo issue diagnosis

Hi all

I'm looking at a 2017 204 4motion DSG van with 90k on the clock. FSH (though need to see that) and current owner seems meticulous with services and oil changes.

However, having heard the horror story with the BiTurbo engine and cost of it goes wrong I am getting a bit twitchy. Though as far as I can tell, mileage isn't necessarily an contributing factor as long as the van is well maintained. It all seems a bit random which van may have it.

From what I've read if the van is using lots of oil this indicates the van may have a problem, but is there any way to know I've got a wrong un ahead of purchase?

Obviously, I'll ask the seller who seems genuine enough but who knows? I'm considering getting a presale inspection by the AA but not sure this will be able to diagnose this particular potential issue.

Any experience or advice would be very welcome.

They seem to have issues with EGR corrosion (which I think is more in the lap of the gods than influenced by maintenance/driving style) and with an interaction failure of the DPF blocking and the Small Turbo failing (it's not clear which causes which but they seem to occur together frequently)

A Millers Oil test might give you some indication of any developing issue with the EGR (and potentially engine wear) if you're able to do that:

Examine the service history for any emissions related work. If the owner has been diligent with ensuring DPF regens complete and also that the engine idles for a bit at the end of the drive and the turbo isn't shut down while hot those would positively influence the other frequent failure mentioned around here.
