Does anyone use anything to save money on insurance? I’ve read you can save Upto 40% using a device like this. Sounds a bit good to be true.....so inveriably is!

My 17 year old uses one but its enforced by the insurance company, big saving though of about £1000.

Daughter has one fitted (18 years old)
Was still over 2k to insure
And nothing but grief
Limited milage/bad scores if car is started and stopped over 5 times s day
She gets perfect 10s in scores(through the app)
Then a week before shes due a bonus bit of money back
The scores suddenly go into negative for no reason whatsoever..

Got to the point where she cried her eyes out and refused to drive the car .
I be glad when feb comes and we get to change insurers

Edit. I tried driving it the other week , and couldn’t get anywere near my daughters perfect scores lol

We've had this conversation before, and my daughter is 17 next week, with a bulk load of lessons for her Birthday. She's dreading one of these boxes, and says her friends hate them because of how hard they are to please. I'm sure the last thread there was a mention of how dangerous someones Son's driving was, simply because he was so fixed on the speedo, and not the road.

If you can get them through the first year with a box it certainly seems to be an advantage the 2nd year,
from our experience with 2 young lads who think they invented speed and tricked out cars

I thought that, then my mates lads experience was cheaper in year one not a big reduction in year two whereas 1st year no box, clean license year two decreased third year a major decrease. Overall outcome cheaper in the long run without box and as long as the kids are responsible and mature in attitude I definitely wouldn’t bother with the black box...

Do the insurance companies offer the option to have one or not have one? Obviously with 2 different prices.

Some do, majority only one or the other. Best deal I got for a cheeky little Corsa was £1,600 still 3 times the value of the car! Could have saved nearly £400 with black box, but in it for the long term.

IMHO its a post code lottery, i dont know if we are lucky but we live in a rural area, but both my lads only had boxes for the first year when they passed their tests and now insure their own vehicles just in their names

I have a box fitted by Smart Driver Club. I did post a thread on them sharing the benefits - see link.

I know the owner well, no scam, just decent motivated women trying to offer something different.

They measure the below - as you can see I need to improve on my speeding lol

Because of where I live, where I work, and the fact I have nine points my insurance is going to be £1700. Is there is any way I can get a discount I’d be willing to try!

Blimey, i'd be awful at that, but I bet it would improve my driving. Is it anything to do with the insurance industry, or just a drivers aid to improve their driving?

That would be my one on a good day.

You can either just be a member or you can also take out insurance - the device plugs in the ODB port so nice and hassle free. Some more pics

Does that act as a tracker too?

You can view where it was last parked, you can if stolen contact them and they can give the police live directions in regards to where it is currently and if on the move they would relay that to the police.

They dont give YOU that info due to people going all Liam Neeson on the thieves asses ha

Further to that you can set alerts everytime it moves so if on holiday you would know it was stolen immediately.

Bought a new Skoda Citigo for my lad when he was 17. (About £85 pcm I think)Black box with him as main driver, fully comp, about £750 I think.
Bloke I met had his 17 years old daughter in his mums Peugeot 1007, insurance £1400.
