Body Control Unit question...?

I have the warning on my dash "error stop start". Mechanic has said he's checked the wiring and he says its the BCM unit that is not working. No breaks or corrosion to the wires. Does anyone know how much I should pay for a new unit?

I would consider changing the mechanic.

But speaking seriously you should get your vehicle scanned with a diagnostic tool to read the fault codes. Then you can really assess what exactly is not working and requires repair/replacement.

He's done the diagnostic and his response was to replace the module. What do you think is the issue with the mechanic?

VAG often disable stop/start for a plethora of reasons, anything from a tired battery to a pressure sensor. Basically the brain says 'i'm not working 100% correctly, so disable stop/start.'

What ever the actual code is will give you a better indication of the fault, bit it would be very unlikely for a faulty BCM to be the route cause of a issue. Find out what codes he got, report them back (or google them!) and you will be a bit closer to finding the issue.
