I believe that we have to pay taxes of we guy goods from the EU.

Does anyone know how much this is? Is it just a simple % of purchase price or more complicated than that?

Thanks

Yes, I had a parts delivery from Germany finally arrive yesterday after 8 weeks and with additional import duty/VAT/ handling charges of £146

It’s very confusing for sure. We buy lots of stuff abroad so are working it out and how it will work best for us.

Chuffing complicated vat rules of origin. A lot of it is due to the sender forgetting to tick the sender pays vat box on the paperwork.

Basically, it's a f*cking nightmare. Different import tax rates apply to different products, and vat is charged on the import tax inclusive price. You shouldn't have to pay anything for goods worth less than £135 unless they’re gifts over £39 or excise goods (for example, alcohol and tobacco). Anything over £135 should be tax free in originating EU country, but only if they've registered. But if not, you can end up double taxed. Some of the bigger retailers do all the tax (import and vat) for you
