Hello,
Situation as is:
- VW T6.1 California 2020
- 2 solar panels connected with Victron MPPT
- victron DC/DC (ditched the 'smart' VW relay)
- Ablemail trickle charger for the starter battery
Considering to be situation:
- 2 x 100Ah Lifepo4 batteries
Concerns/Questions:
- Can I connect the EHU Charger tot the starter battery instead of the leisure battery OR should I replace it with a Lithium capable charger?
I would rather opt for charging the starter battery directly instead of trickle charging with the Ablemail when on EHU (most used at home when in the garage)
- I would like to built my own Lithium battery pack from EVE cells and use a good BMS with active balancing. I found all the components and would use an empty battery casing (sold separate) to mount it in the orginal spot. The reason why I would rather built my own , is because of the BMS choice.
- Is there anything else that needs work to make the Lithium swap a success?
Reason:
- My AGM batteries don't hold their charge like they used to. When driving for hours, the diesel heater won't make it through the night. It goes in error 'voltage too low'.
The heater needs a deasant amount of amps to start, so the voltage drops below 11,8
Greetings
Leo
