Can I swap a front double-seat for a single seat?

Hi all,
My first so here goes....

Bought a vw T6 2018 only has 6k on clock and wife doesn't like the twin seat and wants a captain seat.

What are my options in getting this sorted.

Plenty of people here have done it - do a search for captains seat.
Spare captains seats are fairly rare and are expensive. You might struggle to give the twin seat away.
You also need to think about airbags too as, if they are fitted, they are different.

It also depends on what your wife doesn't like about the twin seat.

Do you want to swap it yourself, or get someone to do it ?

Didn't think of airbags.... was hoping to do myself. I can get a seat from Poland very expensive but the I would be spending another load on getting either trimmed or swapped for upholstered ones..

The airbag is in your / wife’s favour - it’ll be larger to accommodate two people sitting on the double seat, whereas a factory 2-captain van would have a narrower air bag. I’ve swapped my double seat out for a captains and left the airbag as is, as have lots of others.
The problem arises when people go the other way and replace captains seats for double seats (I’m sure there’s an active topic on that now)

As you say, LHD vans offer plenty of passenger seats for RHD vans
You could try and mod a RHD drivers’ seat to suit the passenger but you’d probably end up spending so much tome and money (the plastics are around £125 new) that the Polish one would come in at a comparable price but without the headache.

I did exactly the same as SWMBO suffers with a bad back and the twin seat caused her to lean into the middle slightly.

My van is a startline so no extra air bags in the seat itself (or heating elements) so just 8 nuts to undo and 4 fixings to remove from the floor. 2 holes in the flooring are hidden and 2 end up on show by the handbrake. You can get ‘bungs’ from ebay for about 12 quid to hide them.

I got a matching seat from Exploria and have since added arm rests. The seat was from a van so is missing a bit of trim low level at the back. I’ve not done anything with the airbag as only a problem if going from a single to a double.

Genuine OEM seat covers can be purchased from Inka Corp on ebay or you may get them from convertors as people go for leather.

SWMBO says its so much more comfortable than the double. I only got £120 for the old double seat but hey ho!

Many thanks ang great info will check these out. Its a highline I when I checked the double there doesnt appear to be anything else airbsg wise on it.

There are a few other places on Ebay that sell them eg Kernow, captainseat, t5cotswoldparts plus the likes of @BognorMotors on here. Just a case of watching and waiting or ringing around to see what they’ve got.

If you have a yellow plug under the seat, then it will have the inbuilt thoracic airbags.
As others have said above swapping a double for a single seat is far easier in terms of dashboard passenger airbag, than doing it the other way around. You'll not need to make any changes, leave as is.
