Hi all, the side assist function on my T6 Caravelle needs to be turned on every time I start the vehicle. Is this normal or should it remain active once set? If so how do I achieve this? Thanks in advance, Phil

Turned on how ?
T6 doesn’t have side sensors these were introduced on the 6.1 along with park assist etc ?
Can you clarify what function we are talking about and how you activate it etc, some photos may help ?

I have a T6 Caravelle with side assist and can activate and deactivate from the right hand steering wheel control switch selecting the appropriate section and by checking and unchecking a selection box.

Do you have a tow bar?

Hi Pauly,
Thanks for the quick reply.
My vehicle is a 2016 T6 Caravelle Highline and it was supplied as standard with the Side Assist function. it is also called Lane change assist system in the owners manual. It is the system that lights up, in orange, the black panels on the inside face of the door mirrors. I set the Side Assist (as it is called in the MFD section of the instrument cluster) by using the right hand side button on the steering wheel to find Side Assist and then turn it on by pressing the button on the steering wheel. The box next the words Side Assist now has a tick in it and the lights on the mirror function as expected when driving. However, when I turn the ignition off and switch it on again the Side Assist function needs to be re-set. My question is, should this function "latch on" and not require re-setting after every start?

Many thanks

Phil

Do you have a tow bar?
Hi Deaky,

Yes I do have the VW towbar but is not fitted at the moment so I think the Side Assist should "latch" once I have set it. once i have set it it works fine until I turn the ignition off then the vehicle loses the setting.

Cheers

Phil

Once turned on it should stay on, however, if you have a tow bar it will deactivate when you plug the electrics in and need turning back on again afterwards. Hence my question. Could be a faulty towing module

Hi Blue,
That is exactly what I am doing. My problem is that the vehicle loses the setting when the ignition is turned off and I have to reset it.

Mine stays on or off and stays on what ever selected even after removing the keys. On replacing the keys it says it is on if that is the way it was left. I should imagine some of the wizard Professors of all things Electro Mechanical T6 physiology on here, probably might know the answer to the problem.

Sorry I was calling side assist the extra parking sensors in the side of the bumper

Is the vehicle standard ?
Is it possible so coding or adaptions have been altered ?
