I see that there has been quite a bit of discussion about problems with the touch screen on the head unit.
(I have an iphone which I always plug in and I normally use Carplay all the time on even the shortest journey)
Firstly, I had small patches on the screen that would not repond.
Then I had large areas of the screen which would not respond - so it became impossible to enter an address in navigation for example.
and I could not change radio stations. That there were problems even when the phone was not connected indicated it was a vehicle fault.
Then I had "Ghost Fingers" hitting the play/pause button every 15 seconds and even when I connected my phone by Bluetooth on the Media channel I would have weird things happen.
Contacted my dealer who said only thing they could do was a new head unit for £2.5K.
But they recommended a company called SatNavSystems just off the A3 Tolworth Bypass in Surbiton.
They don't answer phone calls but you look them up on the web at www.satnavsystems.com and fill in and send off an enquiry form and they email you back.
I emailed them on Monday and they gave me an appointment for Friday lunchtime which was my first free day.
Hamid, the boss, took me out to my van, and after I explained my trouble he then ran through a list of the known problems, some worse than I was experiencing, and explained that the digitizer was at fault which I had guessed.
He told me that the 2015 to 2019 digitizers were all liable to faults and that even a new headunit from VW would still have a probably liable to fail screen. He offered a replacement digitizer and a software update for £475 plus VAT.
About an hour later we were back in the van and he was demonstrating the new fully working screen and all the new possibilities available with the 2025 software and upgraded maps. Most impressive was that my speed is now displayed centrally in the intrument cluster. For an extra £50 I bought a dongle that goes into the USB socket so that I could have full CarPlay by Bluetooth rather than plugging in a cable.
My kombi is just over 6 years old and just rolled round to 40,000 miles and I have been working part time just south of Tower Bridge for over 20 years. 9 miles each way, with a 20 mph speed limit, and 56 speed humps smashing the suspension everyday. In earlier times I would have sourced the parts and attempted to fix it myself. Now I just want to make the problem go away as quickly and easily as possible. I have no plans to change the van until it dies and I stay calm by listening to YouTube and talking books off my phone so I had no problem spending the mony. You can just take your head unit out and send it to them if you aren't local. They also fix backup cameras and bumper sensors and I would be happy to use them again for these too.
So if you are experiencing these problems I would like to recommend SatNav Systems of Unit G, Argent Court, 175 Hook Rise South, Surbiton, KT6 7NL
