CarPlay issue with kenwood

Evening,

I fitted a kenwood dmx8020dabs with a kit supplied by absolut5 on here. All good, bit of trial and error but everything works. CarPlay is being odd tho. I can’t hear calls. No ringing, no sound. They can here me fine. Disable CarPlay, switch to Bluetooth and it works fine. So it’s not a wiring issue, well unless I’m being daft. And there isn’t that many settings to pay with. The call comes up on the headunit just fine just no sound.

Any ideas?

We have an older Kenwood unit ( using a tethered cable ) but I’ve noticed that if an update is due for the iPhone CarPlay has connective issues

ps You may have an option on your iPhone that might need adjusting… reads like Do not Disturb when driving…..look up google how to turn it off….hope that helps:)

CarPlay works fine for everything else. Connects as soon as turn the van on. Maps, music all work great. Phone calls are silent despite displayed on the screen. On Bluetooth the calls work fine so it’s not a sound issue.

When your phone is connected, try turning up the volume on the phone. I had similar on a couple of transits if the phone volume is too low.

I’m sure @Absolut5 will sort you out

When installing Kenwoods its best to initialise it after the first power up.. basically it’s resetting it..

also check it’s has the latest update -

the 8020 may have been on the suppliers shelf for a while and needs a update but i would reset it first

Sorry to drag this back up but I’m still having issues and wonder if anybody has any ideas. There must be lots of people with this head unit and the same phone (iPhone 13 pro, fully up to date). The firmware on the head unit is now the latest one and I’ve reset it etc and still doesn’t work. I’ve tried my partners iPhone and that doesn’t work either, exact same issue. I’ve tried my iPhone with a different CarPlay unit and it works fine.

Even someone like whatzapp on CarPlay. The sound works. It asks if you want to make a call, you say the name, it responds fine and as soon as it switches to the actual call it goes silent.

I did notice a sort of feint hiss when the call is going on so something is being sent to the amp. Disable CarPlay and use Bluetooth and it works fine. Both wired and wireless CarPlay are the same. I’ve tried every setting imaginable on the headunit to no avail. There aren’t any CarPlay settings on my phone to really play with.

We have noticed CarPlay map apps is working fine now with Kenwoods, believed to be a recent Apple update

I’m on the latest iOS. It must be a bug in some combo of settings between the headunit and the phone. There must be thousands of iPhone users with this headset using CarPlay fine.
