Catalytic Converter Orange Warning Light

Hello

I have an orange warning light appear yesterday and I was at the end of my journey for the day.

I had an oil service and EGR pipe replaced a few days before (not suggesting they are connected but a coincidence).

I don't have any recovery (lapsed and had no idea!)

If I drive home carefully, about 100 miles should it be OK? Anyone recommend someone in the Hertfordshire area how code check the codes today? Sounds a bit desperate but I am :-(

Any help would be appreciated.

What does your manual tell you that you can/can't do ?

Pete

Without knowing what the light is on for difficult to say if safe to drive but check the basics oil, water and noise ( for unusual) could be related to the work you had done maybe

Lit up or flashing: catalytic converter fault.
Lit up: decrease speed drive carefully to the next qualified workshop. The engine should be check.

So a slow drive home?

If it’s not clattering about or puking oil and water everywhere a journey ( short) to get it looked at should be ok but best to find out what your upagainst

Do you mean the particulate filter light ? Or the mil light that is on in the photo

Eml light. Called out the AA he said it’s an adblue issue and said it was ok to drive home which was 280 miles journey. Booked it in and they said it needed a adblue software update.

So an update on this, drove home super carefully, no issues.

Drove yesterday for maybe 20 mins and the light went off!!

Doesn't make a lot of sense but hey ho!

If it’s an intermittent fault code it can sometimes clear after a number of ignition cycles. You really need to get a code reader on there to see what codes have been stored.

You could take it in to a local garage and ask them to read the codes for you, in my experience they charge about £60 for that. Or buy a Carista OBD dongle and check the codes yourself from the comfort of your own home. Carista is £25 well spent in my opinion.

I had this on/off emissions light which turned out to be a faulty differential pressure sensor. Ignoring it led to no regens happening, which in turn led to a flashing mil light and emissions light, limp mode and a call to VW assist who replaced it on the drive. He did mention that there was a service action outstanding on these sensors should they fail.
You would need to read the fault codes to be sure.
