Charging voltage

Hi all,

I have a bit of an odd one, my t6 is sometimes reluctant to start but has never failed. I purchased a BM300pro to monitor the battery. The battery seems to be constantly charging at 13.4v with engine under load, but as soon as I run against the engine (coasting to slow down) the voltage jumps up to 14.4v.
The battery never seems to get a decent charge and even after a long run the SoC is between 62 and 72%. A new Yuasa 80ah /800a AGM in October’23. Any ideas?

AFAIK the smart alternator will never charge the starter battery above 80% SOC, so that there is room to accept charge from regenerative slowing down. On my bluetooth battery monitor my battery sits at around 12.4 V or around 60% most of the time.

Thank you for your reply, why do you think the starter is times reluctant? The battery voltage drops to 10.8v.
