Coat hook/rack boot

Has anyone put coat hooks in the rear of a t6 kombi? If so what and where did you fix them. Thanks in advance !

I would have no issues with simply screwing a hook of your choice onto the plywood (?) panels. What are you concerned about, the security of the fasteners or recommended locations?

Recommended locations really. I didn’t panel, insulate, carpet the van so wasn’t sure the best place to drill. Also screw length etc

Bump for a really old thread! Has anyone done this to a pre-lined van? Need a couple of lashing points but unsure what size screw to use on the ply!

I wouldn't screw a lashing point to the plywood. A coat hook would be ok but anything more heavily loaded than that and you risk tearing out of the ply or pulling the panel fasteners out of the chassis.
If you know what thickness ply was used (assuming it is ply and not the OE panels) then a lighter rated tie point may be ok but I would be inclined to anchor anything like that to the metalwork.

Thanks for the reply - I've come to the same conclusion. Might see if I can take off the ply panel and see if I can fix something more permanent underneath.

I did start looking at super strong magnets but they come in at around £100 for both sides and there is no guarantee they will hold.

I did see those but wasn't sure if they are any good over metal that has been insulated and then carpeted
They work fine on metal work with carpet over, they really are quite strong!

When I carpeted mine I found lots of hexagonal holes stamped in the interior metal work, behind the panels. Also found hexagonal rivnuts on ebay. I think these would be fine for securing cupboards, ply panels, hanging curtains, coat hooks etc but I wouldn't strap an MTB down with them or secure several sheets of plasterboard.

When I removed the row 3 seats I found some 7/16 eye bolts to fill the upper seat belt holes (used in race cars to attach harnesses). Now these would take a lot of weight! If you didn't have seat belts you could always get the threaded plates for fitting belts in vans.

This is exactly what I have done, they work extremely well.

Just a quick update. I have bought one of the Northcore wetsuit magnets and it works a treat. Easily strong enough to hook a boot liner onto, even with the insulation and carpeting.

Just wished they were a bit cheaper than £15 a pop :)
