Combined length of T6 SWB + Thule bike rack

Don't suppose anyone knows the combined length of a T6 SWB with a Thule EuroClassic G6 928?

Just bit the bullet and ordered one without thinking about any issues around getting it on the ferry next week. Apparently the limit is 5.5 metres.

Just over 6M as the SWB is 4.9 the rack is 1.3

Could you fold it up and squeeze the bikes in the van just to get past check-in for ferry crossing? Once through that no one will take any notice

Not sure, not got the bike rack so not too sure what's possible, think I'll just be taking one bike.

Are you sure about the 1.3m for the bike rack?? Different sort of rack but my tail gate OEM rack for 4 bikes sticks out about 85cm from the van - the tow ball ones I've seen appear to be of similar length? Either way, it would still take you over the 5.5m combined length but not by quite so much and you might have more chance of getting away with it?

Guessing that is left to right rather than front to back??

2 sets of dimensions on this version - I think that the 84cm (open) and 33cm (folded) are what we are referring to as length??

You're right, logically the dimension that stays the same when folded must be the width, the one that increases must be the height and the one that reduces has to be the length it actually sticks out the back

@Lee - looking at this video of the rack in action on a T5 I think you will be fine, i.e. looks like you will be within the 5.5m to me.

Agree that makes more sense.

Quick follow up, now having the 928 fitted on Friday, I wondered if anyone knows if I'll need a number plate on the back, if so, can I get a standard plate and have it clip on, or is the one Thule sell which you write on the best option?

Bikes will obscure the number plate on your van so yes you will need to get a number plate made up. Can't help with fixing - I'd guess, looking at the light board element of the rack, that it will be pre-drilled - alternatively use some good double sided sticky tape. Personally I'd just take my V5 and ID to Halfords and get them to make one up and then work it out later.

Brittany ferries measured our height last year...we were a couple of millimetres under so ok, but they clearly thought we'd be over.

I have the thule 929 and a standard UK numberplate fits perfectly, it comes with a couple right angle plastic clips that locate into holes around the edge of the numberplate holding it on nicely
