Hi,

I'm a complete virgin to T6's (any Trasnporters!) and this forum. I've spent many hours browsing forums wishing I could do that, and this would be good but never been able to.

After looking, wanting and toying with the idea of getting a T5 for years I have finally been given the green light by the Boss to get a T6. As an active family of 4 with 2 dogs we've been struggling for some time with space in a normal car/SUV so she has agreed with my logic of getting a van.

I want a Shuttle, she wants a Caravelle. I showed her the cost of a Vel and she wants a Shuttle! Hoping to get one in the very near future (I've seen a few that meet her specific criteria) just waiting for everyone in my family to stop being ill.

Anyway, I've been really impressed with the quality and info on here and hope I can contribute when I find my feet.

Paul.

Welcome to the mad house @Hinsley

Have you considered a Kombi? Cheaper than a Vel or Shuttle. Perfect compromise between a family vehicle that you can throw the dogs in without being too precious about getting mud everywhere, you can use them as a van if needed without a great deal of faff and possibly slightly easier to find used.
You can then spend the money you saved on wheels, suspension, interior builds, and all the other insane things we do to these versatile vehicles
A really nice Edition T6 sold on here recently to give you an idea of how good a Kombi can look Sold - Rare- 2018 Vw T6 'edition' Kombi, 7k Miles, Leds, Nav, With Upgrades.

Hello Tourershine, thanks for the welcome.

I have looked at Kombi's but she isn't keen and likes the seating flexibility of the Shuttle as we do take the in-laws/others with us quite often so 7+ seats would be ideal (actually 8 is probably more suited).

She also wants to remove the middle seats when its just the 4 of us and the dogs so they can sit "with the family" in-between the kids in the back and us upfront rather than in the boot like now.

Welcome to my world. Probably not to dissimilar to others I suspect.....

Hi Hinsley,

All depends on you model of course, here is some info that may help you!

As of 2018, the T6 Transporter is available in five nominal gross vehicle weights (GVW), as follows:

  • T26 - 2,600kg or 2.6 tonnes
  • T27 - 2,700kg or 2.7 tonnes
  • T28 - 2,800kg or 2.8 tonnes
  • T30 - 3,000kg or 3.0 tonnes
  • T32 - 3,200kg or 3.2 tonnes
GVW is the total legally allowed weight of the vehicle, including the people and everything else on board. As such, it's important to know exactly which variant you're driving, as this also defines the payload.

Most Transporters carry a badge on the back with the relevant T-number, but doublecheck with the weight plate to make sure.
