Would there be any massive disadvantage of not carpeting the ply panels? so maybe staining them, bit of varnish? Thinking of how to get a slightly different look inside. cheers
The ply is thin and usually not great quality - Not sure itd look that great stained.

But you could try.... if it doesnt look good you can just cover over it and all youve lost is some stain.

the CNC ply panels I'm looking at are 6mm so stronger than the OEM boards. You could varnish but I think carpet helps with the sound deadening.

Might be worth investigating birch veneer ply to keep it light & airy!

Be aware that the panels need some flex to bend to the side contours. 6mm might looks better but flush fitting might be harder.

Also clip choice.

At this stage I just want it to be a little more comfortable / quiet. Not planning fully carpeted metalwork just the side panels. Also want to install some cubby holes on the sliding door / fixed panel next to the R2 seats - also working on idea for recessed elbow rest! Not fussed about hidden fixings so looking at screw in type. Happy to leave the roof for now as well!

If we change its use from family transportation to camper then no problem if a few panels get binned.

With a bit more info do you think 6mm panels still a problem if screwed on? With a couple having extra features added I’m thinking 6mm will give extra strength if I’m cutting holes in it!

I’m also thinking of cutting my own now so can do a mix/match of thicknesses to suit!

(sorry for the hijack)

Probably doable if that's the aim. Watch out on the slider for clearance of the wheel arch.

Morning Tobs you can let your imagination run away with you and do anything you fancy inside have wooden slats or varnish if you have nice wood Ply panels or laminate them, Do Anything you want your making Your van the way You want it . if it don't work out or look right when you have done it, just start again or carpet over the top there's no rules and you know the guys in here will give you advice even if its something unusual you want to try

if not carpet look at suede or vinyl or leather or fur there's a huge selection of materials or a mixture add some two tone, even wall paper if you wanted and remember mood lighting for effects the world is yours. build it to what you want to use it for.

My van was factory paneled but My color theme inside the upholstery is going to be Blue Urban Camouflage lol

i started my van this weekend Bulk head out, Craft double swivel seat fitted , ( amazing well made piece of kit ) rear underfloor insulation is in ( dodo duo ) , jack point removed. delighted how it went. its very all easy to do just very, very fiddly. but the wife helped and no rows lol would say some of it you need really do need a extra pair of hands

i ll do a proper write up with some tips that i learned , as i did't have a clue when i started.

just one tip if its being covered up it don't matter what it looks like. We All try so hard sometimes on the bits noone will ever see ...
