Cracked Valare VLR08

I had what I thought was a slow puncture turned out to be a cracked Valare VLR08

I assume this is rare? Any other experience?

I can't offer experience of Valare VLR08's but I know several people with various cars who have recently suffered cracked alloys, not surprising with the state of the roads.
I've just replaced 4 BMW alloys on my daughter's car, two cracked, all buckled to varying degrees. I'm sticking with steel wheels.

Wow, I’ve had lots of cars with low profile tyres, some heavy and never had it… suppose it’s your Donald Duck at the end of the day. Roads are an absolute shambles at the moment.

It's rare, we're a dealer and they are very strong. We have them on our caddy and the roads near us... Well I've seen smoother dirt track in Africa.

Low profile tyres done help as there's less to cushion but wheels do crack I've seen a set of Supermetal do it, Bentley's, Ronald and a few others

Good to hear it’s rare TBH. I nearly got 2 rear tyres mobile fitted on the site we were on at the weekend. It was luck that we drove past a tyre place and asked them to repair it, he noticed the crack as soon as he got it off. I was partly blaming myself for bumping up our kerb outside the house (slowly) to get lined up on the drive next to the car.

Defo could be doing without the £320 to replace the thing.

I did call Valare today and the guy was helpful who answered, seemed a decent guy. No point in giving them the wheel though, he said it’d be months to get an answer…

Wheelmania do good repairs on wheels in Birmingham, I've seen a lot of people with the VLR03 ones crack....wheelmania even told me not to buy them when I enquired

Got the wheel on today and all seems good. I may have also been running pressures in the van a bit low. I was running them at 38psi and was recommended to run them at 45psi. That does seem high, but it seems to ride better on corners.

I have vlr07s on my van and had one crack when we were doing the NC500! Thankfully managed to top it up everyday which got us around and home. The spare was the standard 16 inch so bit of a school boy error there! Bought a new wheel which i must say was reasonably priced. Took to my local tyre fitter today to swap and to get a slow puncture repaired on one of the other wheel and low and behold another crack! So is it rare? Not in my case! If it happens again i'm either replacing them all for smaller rims or seriously contemplating going to steels!

Funny you should say that, I’m on the NC500 right now, 20’s with 35 profile and cobra lowered springs are not made for this at all. Now got a shudder from the steering. Possibly needing the wheels balanced again or tracking done by the feel. Seriously thinking of 18’s with more rubber. There’s a cracking van just pulled up across from us and the black 18’s actually look better IMHO.

More rubber I think will definitely help! i'm thinking of fitting Tyre Pressure monitors as well so I keep them topped up! If it happens again i will definitely not be replacing a single wheel, I will be downsizing!

I've had 2 cracked Velare VLR07's while using 35 profile tyres, a front 8.5J and a rear 10.
I bought 2 new single wheels to replace them and had the old ones welded up as spares.
No problems since upping the profiles to 45 on the front (245's) and 40 on the back (275's) Michelin CC2 suv's.
No spare underneath, but a recent purchase of a Bak Rak will be put on the towbar when we do Skye in August.

I’m unsure if those Lanvigator tyres are rank rotten or it’s the 20’s. I can’t get a replacement tyre anywhere up on Ullapool.

Lanvigator, have never heard of them pre ‘van-life’! One of 2 options when you use the Halfords search for 102 load rating.
Has the rim cracked? Hopefully just the tyre. Could've been nasty on the way back home...

Do you know the width of your wheel? Are they staggered? 275's? When I bought my van it had 275/35's all round on staggered wheels, too wide for the front 8.5J's, OK for the rear 10's, if you've got a spare £1000 I would heartily recommend the CC2's. £250 a corner is a bit steep but the extra profile depth has made a real difference to the ride and protecting the rims (so far)...
