Guys does anyone have any advice on how to use this

CTEK MXS 5.0 Battery Charger​

Just got one today and before I use it how do to lol.

Wheee do I plug the leads on the van? Sounds stupid but clueless.

I’m also using it for my caravan battery which I’ve bought inside.

Is it the same function as what you would use when charging the van?

Do you just leave it in the van bonnet?
For a while or when it’s charged take it off

Appreciate some help guys

are you using the crock clips?

or the wired quick discounects?

whatever you use, make sure you dont use the battery NEG post - use the light bracket or other chassis NEG. .


set it to AGM battery mode for the T6 starter battery.

if its an AGM then yes.

if its a stardard SLA battery then use the CAR setting.

AGMs are still lead acid - just have a bettery voltage range. .

both your batterys are AGM - so use the AGM mode on the charger.

Well I've stopped that cycle and changed it to that one in the picture

the T6 starter battery has the shunt that meters out the power,

clipping a charger to the NEG post bypasses the shunt and the van wont see the charge power.

if you have stop/start - then you have the smart alternator.

if no stop/start - then regular setup so you can clip on the NEG post.

I got the 12v plug adapter and just plug it into the lower dash socket.

Plugged into the van 240v socket with an extension, plug in the EHU on the drive.

I put a split ring through the moulded hole in the corner of the CTEK, through an S hook placed on the driver side grab handle, then just hang it down so I can see where it is up to through the window.

I'm the same as @CAB in that the van is on EHU , I plug the MXS 5.0 charger into the mains in the van and then plug the charger into the lower 12V docket in the van via a Ctek adapter. That said, from what I've read on here, not all vans are equal in that some lower 12V sockets are not permanently live (a requirement for this approach to work).
