Dangling mudflaps!

Hi all, I had a body kit fitted to my new T6 when bought from the dealer. They used an aftermarket company to do the kit. Six months later the mudguards are dangling down and scraping on the floor. I can’t see how they are meant to be fitted, one side is screwed in and the other seems to pop into the bodywork but it’s loose and just falls out all the time.

Am I missing something obvious, see pictures attached

Sorry I can not help you fix the mudflaps but do emphasize. I have front and rear flaps and they are frequently getting knocked. The rear ones have a rather pathetic mounting with what looks like a wood screw holding them onto the body work. For all the good they do I would rather not have them at all. They are little more than a styling fad with little use other to keep detaching. I had considered calling in at a rally supply to see what they had for the rear. Perhaps a row of rubber individual sheets dangling right across the rear, somewhere near the rear bumper or just ahead. Not sure what for the front. I am sure someone with a better idea will reply.

Mine have done the same, i've removed them for now. They fix by screwing into a plastic plug that pushes into the hole I have circled above, similar to a wall plug. However the lug and screw have pulled out the hole. Best option would be to install a rivnut or new fixing into the hole which is what I intend to do

Hope that helps!

You could replace the plastic fixings in the cill , ours had plasterboard fixings fitted .

They still weren't great so the flaps are in my lock-up still after nearly 10 years of meaning to get around to fitting them properly.
Might just buy some caddy flaps .

Mine did the same. One of the various garages I've visited over the years has managed to get a half decent fixing somehow and they've stayed in place.

Ok thanks, odd design! Do vw fit any decent looking ones properly rather than these aftermarket ones? I have a service plan with them and will ask to add some

This thread shows how the flaps are meant to be fitted
You may just be able to ask the dealer to supply the fixings you are missing .

Same here! Our nearside rubber bung in the front has perished so need to fashion a replacement fixing. Thanks for the ideas in this thread.

The oem rubber bung solution is terrible. Prone to the screw corroding in the centre metal threaded insert and the rubber perishes over time. The best solution is a stainless M6 rivnut and stainless M6 screw. The original hole is perfect size for M6 rivnut. It’s a more solid fixing and won’t corrode like the original and there’s no rubber to perish and fail.
