Decisions, decisions…. Daily Driver

Can you not plan a few more trips etc to get more use out of the van? I’ve had all kinds of cars Nobles, exiges, porsches and an M3 CSL and whilst I have young kids now I absolutely love my van and the cheap weekends away etc. The roads are getting harder to enjoy quick cars on so I don’t really miss it as much as I thought I would certainly not when I’m sitting in the lakes in my awning with a beer.
The van sold 3 weeks ago so that’s not an option unfortunately but do agree with you.

£34k for this

Keep that for a few years an you'd probably not lose much, if any money - the prices have steadied out on these.

I'd take one of these over a brand new golf any day of the week.

That’s pretty much all my budget right there - it’s a nice looking thing but too old and likely too expensive to run

I have been looking at the last of the 7.5s (so 2019/2020 reg) as this seems ot be the sweet spot before the dreaded Mk8 arrived.
Was the 7.5 the introduction of those useless touch ‘buttons’ instead of physical press buttons?
I thought it was just that and a grille remodel, otherwise everything was same as the mk7.
In which case the mk7 seems the better option to me.

My dads got a 3 door mk7 manual in pearlescent white and even after owning some silly cars i absolutely love driving it. Great cars. Small enough to hustle down a b road without worrying about your wing mirrors and handle really well. If your looking at 2nd hand be sure to check the water pump for signs of leaking coolant really common failure on them.

Yeah tbh I'd want one of these as a second car, not a daily driven car. But worth a consideration!

The MK7.5 is the facelifted MK7 - same basic car but slightly different tweaks including the virtual cockpit.

The Mk8 saw the redesign of the car including the front and rear externals, plus the dash and those stupid touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel and removal of the physical climate buttons.

I have a (perhaps silly) rule that if I am changing my vehicle I need to buy one newer than the one I am getting out of. My T6 was a May 2019 so technically can only buy a MK7.5 not a MK7.

I was in same situation earlier this year I’ve had the mk7 R few years back and was adamant I was getting the 7.5 this time as was reading about the dreaded touch sensitive buttons etc.
I went to main dealers looking for a 7.5 and was convinced to take the mk8 R for a spin
Salesman was a nice chap said don’t be shy give it some welly.
Was blown away really I’ve had some fast cars before but loved everything about it.
The sensitive buttons was an issue on the early models but have now been resolved.
I’m 3000 odd miles in now and never had an issue with controls etc.
There supposed to be 320bp standard but there not watch some vids on them and there’s loads of claims that vw have understated it.
I watched one where bloke picked it up from dealers took straight to dyno and was just shy of 350hp

Take one out for a test drive is my recommendation

My brother had a 7.5 manual, which was so competent at everything, it was bordering on dull.
I have been considering replacing selling my A6 and getting into a 7.5 GTI Performance Pack and having it mapped.

On the subject of the daily van, which is a bit late now yours has sold, I don't think I would daily one if I didn't have to.
I'd love to have the luxury of using a camper for that sole purpose, but for the few times per year, I don't think it's justifiable. For me, the best and worst things about the T6 are that it is a van. I love the practicality of it, I like being able to utilise the load area (even in a SWB Kombi) for stuff I would have to drop the seats in a car, but I still think the car is more comfortable, (mostly) better equipped and cheaper to buy and run. If it wasn't for being able to fit three kids in car seats on the back seat, I probably wouldn't have gone for one.

Sounds good.
Appreciate the suggestion, but too old, too many miles and it’s white - apart from that it looks perfect

If you enjoyed the mini, have you considered a JCW clubman? I get as many smiles in ours as I do our T6.1 even though the van in a completely standard panel van.
Would have loved to buy your alloys but not sure what way to go with conversion. They were an absolute bargain
306bhp in a jcw clubman as well

Thanks - I did enjoy the JCW hatch that I had between the T6s.
It didn’t stand a chance though as I wanted another van as soon as I sold the first one so it was always playing second fiddle. But as a car in its own right it was good fun.

I have been looking at JCWs again but not the clubman - will take a look

I've completely gone off the idea of getting into the Golf now. Only because if I bought one, I wouldn't be satisfied until it had Neuspeed wheels, H&R coilovers, 4 pots, a decent intake system, exhaust, uprated FMIC and a stage 2 tune. And that, financially, would defeat the whole point of using it as a daily, when I already have two other fun cars to use.

The saga of a replacement for the T6 continues….. I used to be indecisive but now I can’t make up my mind :think smile bounce:

36 days since I sold my van

The ‘luxury’ car tax supplement of an extra £410 a year is a real barrier for me and is limiting choices
